Excel Summer Camps & Programs Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

The Position

Excel Programs seeks part-time and full-time seasonal camp lifeguards/swim instructors. Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, Swim Instructors are expected to guide children throughout the camp experience, assist them with daily activities and programs, and ensure their safety and well-being.

About You

Successful candidates for this position will:

• Make a positive impact on children while receiving hands-on experience in a camp setting, professional development, resume building, and networking opportunities.
• Be able to properly implement pool supervision as a lifeguard and demonstrate the ability to complete saves during weekly safety drills and if needed during shifts on stand at the pool.
• Teach group swim lessons to children of all ages and skill levels.
• Implement lesson plans and activities to meet the individual needs of each swimmer.
• Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to motivate and encourage students to reach their goals.
• Have a flexible schedule with opportunities to work a full schedule weekly and a competitive salary.
• Typical hours for pool staff are 8:30am to 3:00pm daily. There is an option to work an extended day.
• Be responsible for group supervision of students with attention to behavior and group management, health, safety, security, and personal and skill development.
• Inform Aquatics Director of any concerns regarding the health and safety of the students or other staff members.
• Implement camp program activities; includes outdoor and indoor activities.
• Use effective management and supervision skills to lead the group assigned daily.
• Work effectively with fellow summer staff members and collaborate on daily responsibilities.
• Complete assigned paperwork (skills tracking).
• Serve as a positive role model to children on campus.
• Professional interaction with students, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger campus/school community.
• Push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus.
• Possess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required prior to start of camp
• Previous experience working with children preferred.
• Complete all background checks required by the Department of Education.
