Tree Watering and Maintenance Associate Role

(part time, 10-25 hours per week)

Pay range: Hourly, $25/hour.

Hours: 10-25 hours per week, flexible hours

OVERVIEW

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy seeks a self-motivated, organized and tree-loving seasonal Tree Watering and Maintenance Associate to provide tree care to over 200 trees in the Emerald Necklace parks. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, you will help water and care for trees using the Conservancy's watering truck.

Position and responsibilities:

• Operate the Emerald Necklace Conservancy's Ford F250 Watering truck and the attached motorized watering tank to care for young trees throughout the Emerald Necklace park system.
• Work with Field Operations Manager, Jack Schleifer, to develop watering plans, schedules, and maps necessary to achieve watering goals and meet tree needs.
• Water trees with utmost care for their condition and ability to uptake water (further directions to be provided during field training).
• Conduct any necessary maintenance on the trees and their planting locations such as adjusting fencing, reshaping mulch, removing weeds, pruning damaged branches, etc.
• Occasionally update tree records in the Conservancy's GIS inventory using the Field Maps application on your cellphone (further training and login credentials to be provided).
• Refill truck's 300-gallon water tank from various spigots/sources, predominantly the Curley House office in Jamaica Plains.
• Serve as an ambassador for the Emerald Necklace Conservancy's field maintenance and tree care responsibilities.
• Employ caution while driving, parking, and operating associated machinery.
• Conscientiously steward and advocate for the trees and spaces in the necklace, which includes making notes of unusual conditions and contacting supervisors when appropriate.
• Assist with the Conservancy's park signage program throughout the Emerald Necklace parks to place and repair A frame signage. Utilize a signage map to update location of park signage.

Other expectations:

• Communicate hours and plans weekly with your manager.
• Return all keys and equipment to designated locations at the end of the day.
• Modulate work based on local rainfall and ecological needs.
