Job Description:
The Grain Elevator Group manager will manage a Group of Country Grain Elevators where a high standard of customer service is met with sound financial business decisions that set the stage for future growth and investment.
FULL-TIME/ PART-TIME: Full- time 
EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Exempt
Pay: Based on Experience
Location: Northern IL (Chemung, Garden Prairie and Marengo)
Shift: Varies based on the season and needs of the locations

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Grain Elevator Group Manager:
  • Management: Responsible for a set of employees i.e., Leadership, Communication of Goals & Objectives, Safety Agendas, & Team Building
  • Accounting: Responsible for contract/ticket/settlement review, contract evaluations, accounts receivable management, entering/editing/amending contracts, customer account review
  • Merchandising/Origination: Responsible for group oversight and enforcement of the company trading policies, communicating with end-user markets to perform group inventory sales and arbitrage, managing physical grain trading positions by monitoring HPR/contracts, & implement effective strategies for Group merchants /originators
  • Risk Management: Responsible for functions of managing risk in grain trading, hedging, and performing audit/risk mitigation procedures
  • Logistics: Responsible for maintaining a freight position that appropriately corresponds with the Group’s Shipping and Receiving volume projections. A strong understanding of truck, rail, and barge capabilities, availability, and their secondary market trading. Ability to calculate transportation rates, communicate with shippers/receivers, review/approve freight invoices, & communicate shipping schedules
  • Outside Operations/R&M: Responsible for fostering a strong relationship with facility superintendent and outside operations staff, which is responsible for all operations functions of a grain elevator, quality management, asset/space utilization, grain handling priorities, safety procedures/practices/software, repair & maintenance procedures, inventory management/software, PLC operation, and budgeting for Capital & R&M projects
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning efforts to help add value to the company. Have ready multiple plans that maximize participation in unique and infrequent market opportunities
  • Financial Projections: With the input from Location Managers, prepare quarterly budgets for the Elevator Group. Measure and compare financial outcomes to make informed decisions for effective future allocation of resources. Set realistic goals for financial growth and sustainability.
  • Talent Development: Responsible for enhancing the skills, capabilities, and potential of individuals within an organization, most specifically location managers and location superintendents.
  • Maintaining accurate and organized grain documentation
  • Responsible for following the practices/procedures stated in The DeLong Company grain policy.
  • Need valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time. Ability to handle stressful situations with rapidly changing requirements. Driven to complete tasks and succeed within the organization. Ability to work extended hours during peak busy season. Ability to work in extreme elements. Other duties as assigned.
Key Attributes of the Grain Elevator Group Manager:
  • 5 year agricultural business experience- required
  • Strong communication & leadership skills- required
  • Past demonstration of organizational skills- required
  • Proficient usage of Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook- preferred
  • Familiarity with accounting software (AGRIS)- preferred
  • Familiarity with CRM software (Salesforce)- preferred
  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in one of the below areas, or equivalent industry experience, Master’s Degree Preferred
