The Dahlia School of San Francisco is Hiring a French-Speaking Montessori Assistant Guide Near San Francisco, CA

We are seeking a dedicated, benevolent Assistant Teacher who is passionate about equity, diversity, community building, teacher leadership and child and family support. You will support the Elementary Classroom mostly (5-12 year olds), however time in the Early Childhood Program (18 mo - 6 year olds) may also be available or needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Starting between July 29 - August 5, 2024.
  • Position is full-time
  • Must be willing to work 9 until 5:30pm Monday through Thursday and 8 until 4:30pm on Fridays and occasional evenings for parent education nights and school events.
  • Speaks and teaches in French at all times with children in elementary, Spanish or English if in early childhood.
  • Language Instruction: Deliver daily French and/or Spanish lessons to students, fostering language acquisition and cultural appreciation.
  • Support for Diverse Learners: Implement daily support strategies tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Cooking Support: Guides children in daily cooking activities, promoting healthy eating habits and culinary exploration.
  • Art Program Leadership: Lead the school's art program, planning and facilitating creative activities that inspire students' imagination and self-expression.
  • Extracurricular Support: Safely walk students to and from extracurricular programs, ensuring their well-being and participation in enriching activities beyond the classroom.
  • Montessori Education: Demonstrate interest in the Montessori approach to education, integrating its principles into daily teaching practices.
  • Teacher Training Sponsorship: Opportunity for sponsorship for teacher training programs to further professional development and deepen understanding of educational methodologies.
  • Partnership Support: May be asked to support needs at partnering early childhood programs, fostering collaborative relationships and extending educational support to younger learners.
  • Chaperoning Field Trips: Assist in organizing and chaperoning field trips, also known as "Going Outs" in Montessori, providing students with hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom.
  • Supports other teachers' breaks.
  • Receives and greets classroom visitors.
  • Offers necessary support in either classroom and with school administration.
  • Leads extended care hours from 3-5:30pm.
  • Supports cleanliness of classroom and school in partnership with all staff and students
  • Acts as a substitute in order to assure adequate coverage for the school site.
  • Administers first aid, provides health office coverage and dispenses approved medication to students in accordance with Red Cross First Aid/CPR training (to be sponsored by the school.)
  • Operates a variety of office equipment including a classroom mobile phone, Ipad, school copier, fax machine, two-way radio, computer and assigned software.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in a Montessori classroom is ideal but not required.
  • Interest in furthering her or his Montessori career by taking Montessori training in the future.
  • Bilingual French and English (Native French speakers encouraged to apply)
  • 12 Early Childhood Education Credits
  • Believes in the unique human potential of each child, and recognizes the impact and connection of each child in the world.
  • Passionate about the value of Montessori education in the service of equity, diverse communities and social justice.
  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and open mindedness, along with the willingness to be part of a community that learns and grows together.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Physically able to:
  • Stand up 95% of the classroom hours and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Guide classroom and children on outdoor excursions and field trips
  • Bend, stoop and sit for various tasks throughout the day
  • Assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children
  • Move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations
  • Perform all activities with children, i.e. jump, dance, walk, run, etc. for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to sustain a high level of energy
  • Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children’s well being
  • Our school embraces nature, outdoors and adult guided “going outs.” May be required to be outdoors and push children in up to six child buggies for regular, prolonged activities.
