DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Community Development and Partnerships (CDP) department at DC Central Kitchen provides programming to improve the quality of community life by mobilizing resources and influencing systems, cultivating relationships with partners, and serving as catalysts for change. We do this through our Healthy Corners program which provides fresh fruits and vegetables to local corner stores in communities classified as food deserts, the community engagement and collaboration team which develops new and existing partnerships with the community, the Impact and Evaluation team which identifies performance measurement and evaluation activities for internal and external programs and trends, and Supportive Services which provides resources for students and alumni with significant barriers.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The CDP Intern will assist the team with the coordination of impactful community engagement opportunities and light administrative duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the CDP team with activities that promote the vision, mission, and values of DC Central Kitchen and cultivate new and existing community partnerships.
• Participate in the creation, planning, and implementation of new community engagement events that help promote DCCK programs and relevant resources.
• Work with the CDP team to facilitate the participation of diverse audiences in program activities.
• Assist with on-site data collection.
•  Participate in team brainstorming meetings, using data to devise ways to improve community engagement events.
• Provide administrative support and assistance with community engagement activities that advance the department’s goals and priorities, which include, identifying potential community partners, implementing targeted outreach and canvassing strategies, and securing resources that are beneficial to DCCK, community partners, and residents.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management and / or duties and tasks needed to drive the vision, mission, and values of DC Central Kitchen.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Self-starter, comfortable working independently and collaboratively with a team
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• General knowledge and basic experience in community engagement 
• Energetic and creative
• Exceptional organizational skills 
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
• Demonstrated cultural competence 
• Pre-employment background check, COVID-19 vaccine, and drug test are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be capable of independent local travel.
• May occasionally move Audio/Visual and other office equipment or lightweight items weighing up to 20 pounds for various meeting and event needs. Some functions of this position may require moderate physical activity, including transporting, positioning, installing, or removing office equipment items, such as printers, computers, phones, and so on.
• Needs to occasionally move about inside the office and commercial kitchen space to access supplies, materials, file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; constantly positions self to access and maintain computer equipment; and must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time.
• Must be able to work in an environment where exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and a variety of odors is common.
