About Our School: The Cove School is a non-public therapeutic day school for students with learning disabilities located in Northbrook just 35 minutes north of Chicago. Cove students come from 60 different public schools throughout the Northern Illinois area. Families can also choose to fund tuition privately.
For over 75 years, The Cove School has been a national leader within its field, creating an exceptional environment where children with learning disabilities “learn how to learn” and develop the emotional and social skills to reach within, achieve above, exceed beyond, and maximize student growth. Classes are kept small. Teaching is flexible and varies according to the individual student’s learning style. A team of onsite specialists work collaboratively to provide students intensive, integrated related services.

Primary Purpose: This position serves as primary contact and support for users of all Cove School supported technology systems, applications and services and provides for the proper functioning of educational technologies including, but not limited to, computer systems, mobile devices, software, AT applications and related AV peripherals. 

Required Qualifications:

This position is a year round position that requires knowledge of and experience with Google Apps for Education, Macintosh OS, Windows Desktop, Servers and virtual environments, and computer-based hardware and software in an educational environment. The person must have excellent time and project management skills along with the ability to work as a team member and independently with minimal supervision if necessary. The person must be able to communicate effectively with students and staff in a positive and proactive manner. 

This position requires that the individual be able to lift and transport heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers, printers and various A/V peripherals. 

Major Responsibilities and Duties 

Technology Systems Support:

  • Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, deploys and repairs school desktop and mobile computer systems, Chromebooks, software and peripherals at all sites

  • Provide support services to faculty and staff at all sites;

  • Provides for the analysis, diagnosis and resolution of computer-related hardware and software problems for users and recommends and implements corrective solutions where needed; 

  • Coordinate support from repair facilities to expedite repair & maintenance of staff and student devices 

  • Actively manage devices in Google Admin Dashboard;

  • Manage and maintain devices using a Mobile Device Management Platform (MDM)

  • Manage networked printers & copy machines, perform minor maintenance (clear jams, change toner, etc…);

  • Coordinate repairs with printer & copy machine vendors, as needed

  • Coordinates and consults on an ongoing basis with the The Cove School Technology & Admin Manager in deploying and providing the ongoing maintenance, inventory and support of effective instructional and administrative audio/video technology solutions which support the school’s goals and objectives;

  • Collaborates with and provides research for the Cove School Technology & Admin Manager on both desktop and mobile solutions to ensure reliable, secure and efficient operation of the educational technology environment;

  • Assist with onboarding of new staff by reviewing log ins, critical applications & resources

  • Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all school computer systems, software and related peripherals;

  • Assist with installation & maintain technology infrastructure at all sites

  • Maintain a supply of computer supplies and repair parts;

  • Accurately documents all instances of computer system or related component failure, repair, installation and removal;

  • Assists in the development of long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future Cove School Technology needs;

  • Assists the Cove School Technology Department with other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to travel between sites (less than 10 miles) to assist with tech support and installation

Data Management:

  • Create and maintain users in Active Directory;

  • Create and manage users in Google Admin Dashboard and other online systems;

  • Manage Papercut print system users and deployment

  • Ability and willingness to manage confidential staff and student information;

  • Assist with managing Student Information System, including creating staff accounts, student accounts, managing student course assignments, attendance, demographics and creating reports;

  • Assist with entering, managing & troubleshooting student academic assessment data in data warehouse
