SUMMARY:

Responsible for coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of disabilities/mental health services to children and families, as defined in the sub service area of the Head Start Performance Standards. Coordinate all phases of the disabilities/mental health services program and provide in-service educational training to staff. Establish relationships with public and private child servicing agencies. Establish working relationship with Center Directors, supervisory staff, teaching staff and family partners regarding the needs of children with disabilities and social emotional challenges; does related work as required. Work with community providers to facilitate services for children/families. Coordinates and facilitates special education collaborative classrooms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following and other duties as assigned.

Ø Coordinates day-to-day operations within special education collaborative environments.

Ø Assist in providing leadership and coordination of the disabilities/mental services effort within the agency.

Ø Assist with referrals coming from the Grantee and other agencies.

Ø Assist with CPSE, EI and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and referrals.

Ø Assists teachers in the development, writing of, and/or provision of individualized education programs for all children with disabilities and behavioral health support plans.

Ø Initiates and monitors documentation and referral processes.

Ø Serve as link between Head Start/EHS with consultants and other providers.

Ø Assist with, schedule and participate in staff and parent conferences related to mental health/disabilities referral process

Ø Receives all disability/mental health services referrals discusses them with MDT at scheduled monthly meetings.

Ø Monitors follow up on all referrals

Ø Maintains records and submits reports of disability/mental health services to the Grantee Disabilities/Mental Health Service Area Manager.

Ø Assists parents of children with disabilities/mental health as needed.

Ø Works with Grantee Disabilities/Mental Health Services Area Manager as needed.

Ø Assist with workshops, training sessions, staff and sub service meetings, community meetings, etc., as directed by the Disabilities/Mental Health Service Area Manager.

Ø Assist with monitoring/observing of children in the classroom.

Ø Assist with Committee for Preschool Education (CPSE) and Early Intervention (EI) referrals and attends meetings as needed (teachers are primary contacts)

Ø Assist with training and technical assistance to family partners/education staff.

Ø Monitors disability/mental health records and provides report to principals.

Ø Conduct individual and classroom observations for children identified through the referral process as requested by Disability/Mental Health Service Area Manager

Ø Attend Health Service Advisory Committee (HSAC) meetings

Ø Maintain accurate records and reports for disability/mental health content area

Salary Information
39,000.00 - 42,000.00 USD Annual

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
:

Ø Master's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood, or Elementary Education with at least eighteen credit hours in early childhood specialization, Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling ; and three (3) years experience working with families and children; or

Ø Bachelor's degree in the above-mentioned areas and five (5) years experience working with families and children
