The College of Wooster is Hiring a Videographer Near Wooster, OH

SUMMARY:

The Videographer is responsible for leading and directing the creation of compelling and inspiring branded video, audio, and motion graphic content to tell the story of the College and its unique position to engage prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, and donors, as well as increase the reputation of the College.

This position conceives and develops creative solutions that promote College initiatives and strategic goals through branded video and multimedia assets, while applying a perspective of Wooster's inclusive values.

The person in this role, collaborates with fellow marketing and communications staff, and freelancers as necessary, to create engaging content for a range of communications, including college-owned channels and advertisements, and measure the effectiveness of the productions with analytical tools to inform future work.

This individual will oversee student interns and collaborate with faculty to coordinate experiential learning opportunities for students. The Videographer reports to the Associate Vice President of Marketing & Brand Management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce, shoot, and edit video for use in a variety of contexts (web, social, events, etc.)
  • Execute pre-production responsibilities, such as creating storyboards, writing scripts, scheduling, recruiting talent, prepping talent, securing props
  • Executes shoot on site/on location including audio, camera operation, talent directions, and set-up and tear-down of shoots
  • Execute post-production responsibilities, such as reviewing footage, making editorial decisions, adding music, creating custom motion graphics, inserting video captioning, and packaging video for different platforms
  • Scout shoot locations and assess possible obstacles in filming and provide solutions or alternatives
  • Conduct interviews with students, staff, faculty, alumni, college partners, and others and ensures that valuable segments are captured for use in compelling storytelling
  • Organize, maintain, and continually contribute to a library of finished videos and multimedia assets, as well as b-roll and archival footage, ensuring they are properly tagged, posted, and easy to search
  • Ensure that all videos meet the needs of a varying audience of ability through the use of captioning and other forms as needed
  • Proactively identifies and oversees the development of content that raises the profile of the College and generates engagement, covering College events or ensuring coverage is taking place where needed
  • Thinks creatively and directs the development of multimedia content for use across College platforms in collaboration with other members of the marketing and communications team
  • Strategizes and develops multimedia marketing campaigns in collaboration with other members of the marketing and communications team and campus partners
  • Trains and oversees student intern(s) to develop content for use across College platforms and to contribute meaningfully on College video and multimedia projects
  • Develops and manages comprehensive workflow systems and procedures; Manages and monitors the archiving, storage, and retrieval functions of a large database of critical video assets
  • Monitors and evaluates analytics to understand engagement and inform future work
  • Stays informed about the current state of and future advances in video production technology and video distribution by pursuing professional development opportunities as available, including taking a proactive approach to increasing both knowledge and implementation of special effects
  • Helps ensure YouTube channel content is fresh, organized, and optimized
  • Oversee, manage, and maintain College's storing of video production equipment
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities for full-time employees but will directly supervise and mentor student interns. Responsibilities include training student interns; planning, assigning, and directing work, and approving timesheets. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in broadcast journalism, video production, multimedia production, or related field, from a four-year college or university
  • Two-plus years of video production experience

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Outstanding written, verbal, and communication skills, and ability to demonstrate leadership and make tough decisions but exercise diplomacy, professionalism, and consensus building with college stakeholders.
  • High level of proficiency and experience with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite, including but not limited to, Premiere Pro and After Effects

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated skill and experience in video shooting, editing and production, from story idea to finished segment, as evidenced by a portfolio of work
  • Track record of producing high-end imagery for use across the marketing and communications spectrum
  • Experience overseeing or mentoring staff or student interns
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once and work under tight deadlines
  • Shows attention to detail
  • Exhibits team-building behaviors
  • Broad knowledge of social media video content and multiple formats and styles of short-form storytelling, including documentary, narrative, vlog, and social
  • Available to work a non-standard schedule in order to fulfill assigned duties and responsibilities

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position may require times of sedentary work, but also includes a significant amount of time of mobility and travel between buildings and departments and on location. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Flexible work schedule with some evening and weekend work. Occasional travel required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be required to sit for long periods while editing; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, move backwards, and taking unusual positions to capture content. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/may move up to 25-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally rearrange furniture.
