The College of Wooster is Hiring an Assistant Field Hockey Coach Near Wooster, OH

POSITION SUMMARY:

The assistant coach will support the head coach in the coaching duties of the NCAA D-III Field Hockey program in accordance and compliance with NCAA, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and The College of Wooster policies and regulations. The assistant coach will also participate in all aspects of recruitment, training and development of student-athletes, retention, and the total organization and administration of the program, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in planning, development, and direction of all team training and conditioning activities at a level that will maintain the Field Hockey program's position of competitive leadership in the North Coast Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division III.
Assist in preparation and implementation of scouting reports, game film, film breakdown, and film exchange.
Assist in developing a recruitment strategy for prospective student athletes, informing prospects of academic programs, talent evaluations, coordinating mailings, telephone calls and text messages, and email exchanges.
Recruit at multiple events as scheduled by the head coach.
Work effectively with the Office of Admissions to meet recruitment goals.
Work effectively with Student Affairs and the Academic Resource Center and others to aid in student retention.
Assist in administrative operations including budget management, coordinating team travel, room reservations, meals, and ordering equipment and supplies.
Assist in the development of a strong alumni and parent support system.
Assist in developing a strong social media platform.
Assist in engaging team members in community service activities.
Serve as an active member of the athletic department's team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation to our nearly 2,000 undergraduate students.
Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives, and processes.
Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
Engage team members in service activities both on campus and in the surrounding community.
Create a welcoming environment emphasizing inclusion and the development of diverse identities, beliefs, and voices.
Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College's and Department of Athletics and Physical Education policies and procedures as well as the NCAC and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
Demonstrate a commitment to the priorities and ideals of The College of Wooster and the Department of Athletics and Physical Education.
All coaches may be assigned additional duties in the areas of facility and game management and teaching. These responsibilities are determined annually by the Chair of Physical Education, Event Manager, Facility Manager, and Director (Associate/Assistant Director) of Athletics and Physical Education.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge and understanding of the sport, and sport specific certification, as appropriate.
Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Basic Word/Excel and ability to learn and operate recruiting software.

SKILLS:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Must have the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse academic community, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively and professionally with students, faculty and staff, and the public.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with sensitive matters confidentially.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Assistant Coaches are required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required.
The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
Some heavy lifting / moving equipment is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the Assistant Coach regularly travels in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, and dust.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
