Summary:

Performs the coaching duties of the Men’s and Women’s Diving program governed by NCAA Operating Bylaws. Assists the Head Coach with some aspects of recruitment and training of student-athletes, and the total organization and administration of the program, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team diving practices, training, and competition.
  • Designs diving workout programs and training routines to improve athletic performance.
  • Implements and supervises diving strength and conditioning workouts.
  • Provides technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport.
  • Conducts recruitment of student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules.
  • Assists the Head Coach in developing a stronger social media platform for the diving program.
  • May perform administrative duties including working with purchasing/facility manager on ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies, and event management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Proficiency and familiarity with Diving techniques and practices is essential.
  • Thorough understanding of NCAA regulations and guidelines pertaining to the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Skilled in comprehending and interpreting various documents including safety regulations, operational guidelines, and procedural manuals.
  • Capable of crafting detailed reports and correspondence with precision.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in making informed administrative and procedural decisions.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, adept at addressing diverse practical challenges within contexts where standardization may be limited.
  • Ability to mentor student athletes on and off the court, strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Knowledge:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic Word/Excel and ability to learn and operate recruiting software.
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
  • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing priorities.
  • Maintain composure in high-pressure situations.

Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse academic community, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive matters confidentially.

Work Environment:

  • Required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Regularly travels in outside weather conditions, is exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and is occasionally exposed to fumes, smoke, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the coach is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
