GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.

I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Information Technology Department at Hostos Community College is committed to providing a secure, cost-effective and reliable state-of-the-art technology infrastructure and computing environment to enable and enhance the productivity, accessibility and user experience for all of its constituents while focusing on a dedication towards customer service to support the College's mission.

The Information Technology Department seeks applications for a Webmaster/CMS Administrator (IT Associate, Level 1). Reporting directly to the IT Sr. Associate, the successful candidate will serve as the primary individual responsible for the campus’ website and content management system implementation, management and support. Currently the campus uses the Kentico.NET CMS, but is exploring other platforms. The Webmaster/CMS Administrator is responsible for designing, developing, securing, testing, publishing, and maintaining web pages and websites/web servers, including layout to functionality, according to stakeholder specifications and organizational standards. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Create visually appealing sites that feature modern mobile-responsive user-friendly design, and exciting content. Web sites are expected to be easy to navigate and to follow the latest accessibility guidelines.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to determine their needs and design preferences, coding the solution, and running tests to ensure functionality meets their approval.
  • Provide consulting, training and guidance pertaining to best practices for webpage design and development and on the executive use of the CMS.
  • Posses strong experience in HTML/CSS, basic scripting, SEO, web architecture documentation, and social media integration.
  • This is an essential position expected to be responsive during emergencies which may require immediate updating of web content as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Essential duties require on-campus presence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

Demonstrated English Language proficiency

A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • 5 years of website development and management experience in higher education setting.
  • BS in computer science or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience managing Microsoft IIS Web Servers, application pools, virtual directories, and security.
  • 4 years of experience with .NET CMS (Kentico) and/or open-source content management platforms such as WordPress, Drupal, etc. in a multi-server, high availability environment with distributed user rights for content editing and approval workflow in a Windows Active Directory domain environment.
  • 4 years of experience integrating Google Analytics into web sites/servers and for social media ad tracking.
  • 4 years of Basic programming skills (.NET/Javascript) and in-depth knowledge of modern HTML/CSS.
  • 4 years of experience with modern graphic/web/UI design platforms and tools, including designing for ADA compliance.
  • 3 years of experience optimizing web sites for search engine optimization (SEO).
  • 3 years of experience creating web forms for email or database routing.
  • Experience with Sharepoint administration and REST/SOAP.
  • Familiarity with OWASP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize web pages for security and mobile responsiveness.
  • Strong understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools.
  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, multitask, and work independently in a dynamic, rapidly changing workplace with high accountability.
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours.

COMPENSATION

$72,209

CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
