New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college offering 58 associate and bachelor’s degree programs in downtown Brooklyn. City Tech's Collaborative Precollege Programs/College Now is accepting applications for a full-time College Now Program Specialist at the Higher Education Assistant rank.

College Now is CUNY's major collaboration with the New York City Department of Education. Its defining goal is to help students graduate from high school prepared for success in college through participation in a broad array of awareness and preparedness programs. The College Now program is one of several college readiness projects administered through Collaborative Precollege Programs at City Tech. Collaborative Precollege Programs offers credit and non-credit courses, workshops, and other campus-based activities (tutoring/academic advisement, parent outreach and SAT support) to students from over 35 partner high schools. Our aim is to improve NYC students' capacity for successful transition to post-secondary education. Reporting to the Director of College Now, the College Now Program Specialist manages the program's database and works with internal and external constituents to support the overall effectiveness of the College Now program. The College Now Program Specialist supports recruitment, retention, implementation, assessment, and the development of a year-long college readiness project that is provided on Saturdays from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and during summers from Mondays through Thursdays. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and Saturdays for a minimum 40 weeks per year).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintain student records for 1000 participating annual College Now students.

Administer admission, registration, and weekly attendance recording procedures.

Manage the collection, collation, and assessment of data streams used regarding program administration, activities, policies, and procedures.

Assist with program assessment and reporting processes.

Collaborate with College support offices, Program Partners, management, and colleagues in order to share and communicate relevant project/practice information.

Administer the submission and receipt of application/registration information in coordination with partner schools.

Assist the College Now Director with inventory, website content updates, and other related activities.

Supervise office operations and support staff as appropriate.

Provide operational and functional support to College Now and Collaborative Precollege Programs as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access and Excel; aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
  • Strong data management and analytical skills.
  • Keen understanding of the needs and challenges facing NYC high school students from diverse backgrounds, and an interest in urban education and college access.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators.
  • Strong organizational, project management, facilitation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate program requirements effectively to students, as well to build rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, staff and faculty.
  • Understanding of the college application and financial aid process, particularly for CUNY and SUNY colleges.
  • Experience with precollege programs, including pre-enrollment and academic advising.
  • Experience training, developing and supervising staff preferred.

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
