The City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation and Neighborhood Services Departments are recruiting for seasonal positions to work with our 2024 Summer Day Camp, offering Camp Fort Worth and the Mobile Recreation Programs. We are looking for enthusiastic Recreation Instructors who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment while encouraging kids to stay safe, physically active, and intellectually engaged while having fun. Camp Fort Worth and Mobile Recreation are Summer Day Camp programs located at 19 community centers and four schools throughout the City of Fort Worth. 

  • Attendance is required at orientation, which is June 3 – 7
  • The 2024 Camp Fort Worth Program operates June 10 through August 2 and is offered between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • The Mobile Recreation Summer Day Camp Program operates from June 10 through July 26 and is offered between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • Candidate must be comfortable and willing to get into the water for any aquatic-related activities and field trips.
  • The positions will work between 32 and 40 hours per week (Seasonal Position with no benefits).

This Position qualifies for the following incentives which are separate from the base pay:

Completion of Assignment Pay You can earn up to a $300 incentive pay, which is based on the amount of days worked while on assignment. 

Camp Fort Worth and Mobile Recreation Summer Day Camp offer a great opportunity to make a positive impact while ensuring the well-being of children ages 5-13 by providing:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months of experience in recreational, educational, cultural and/or fitness programs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Six (6) months or more experience working with children

 The Recreation Instructors’ job responsibilities include:

  • Supervise children in the following summer day camp activities: recreation and educational programs, structured inside and outside activities and events, arts and crafts, games, youth sports, and other recreational events. 
  • Monitor, collect, track, and verify attendance and schedules, breakfast, snack, and lunch meal reports; maintain record of time and payroll for assigned staff. Maintain accurate daily reports, record volunteer, student registration, and enrollment for assigned programs.
  • Provide administrative assistance to management; prepare and present staff reports and provide statistical information for reports as needed.
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that promote educational, cultural, and recreational needs; coordinate indoor and outdoor activities; plan and implement lesson plans that include science, math, reading, organized recreational games, arts and crafts, and college and career activities.
  • Conducts classes for children in various subjects such as art, science, knitting, sewing, woodworking, and cooking; utilizing displays to augment standard teaching methods.
  • Ensures safety standards are met and department and facility policies are adhered to.
  • Supervise activities in aquatic environments.

Depending on the assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

Physical Demands:

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
