The City of Fort Worth is Hiring a Construction Inspection Supervisor Near Fort Worth, TX

Pay Range: $68,905 - $89,576 annual compensation

Workdays & Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. Some evening/weekend work required.

A Construction Inspection Supervisor job is available with The City of Fort Worth in The Transportation & Public Works Department, Capital Delivery’s Construction Services Section. This position will supervise, review, and oversee construction projects involving utility, storm drainage, concrete, and asphalt paving for conformance with plans, specifications, and contracts. The candidate should be a responsible, dependable, and extremely detail-oriented individual who is willing to learn.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture or related field.
  • Four (4) years of public works construction inspection experience, including one (1) year of administrative or lead supervisory responsibility.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with water and sanitary sewer utility, franchise utilities, storm drainage, concrete and asphalt paving.
  • Experience working with Headlight, Accela, BIM360, e-Builder, GIS, Adobe Acrobat / Adobe Sign, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills.

The Construction Inspection Supervisor's job responsibilities include:

  • Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing construction inspection services; identifies resource needs.
  • Inspects work quality and materials used in a variety of public works projects for compliance with building and construction standards and codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Reviews proposed project plans and working days, specifications and quantities; and relays any omissions, errors or related concerns to the appropriate responsible staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates construction change orders; determines whether cost estimates comply with current market prices; and processes change orders.
  • Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public; Meets with design professionals or contractors to interpret design intent and modifications to plans and specifications; provides technical guidance and interpretation; and ensures compliance with city and industry standards, procedures and regulations.
  • Schedules and attends pre-construction meetings; schedules post construction final inspections; ensures project documentation is completed.
  • A strong interpersonal, management, and excellent communications skills with the unique ability to be able to transfer these concepts clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with the development community and internal City staff.

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions. 

Physical Demands

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
