The Churchill School and Center is Hiring an Upper School Mathematics Assistant Teacher Grade 7-8 Near New York, NY

Position Summary and Overview

The Churchill School & Center, aK-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an Upper School Mathematics Assistant Teacher in grades 7 and 8, for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
  • Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Collaborate with the head teacher to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, projects & activities.
  • Assist with preparation of student progress reports and IEPs.
  • Support students in class by:
  • scaffolding assignments, tasks and projects
  • working 1:1 to provide reteaching and review
  • helping them develop critical thinking, problem solving skills, and tools to self-advocate and be productive learners
  • utilizing multimodal methods of teaching
  • Assess student work and participation
  • Work with a team of teachers, school professionals, related service providers and specialists to meet student needs
  • Seek improved methods of teaching through professional development opportunities
  • Establish a strong sense of community and culture to create a safe learning environment for all members of the learning space
  • Attend professional development workshops provided by the school.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have...

  • BA or BS Degree (Degree in Math, Math Education, Special Education or related field preferred)
  • Experience building positive and appropriate relationships with young students
  • Knowledge of pre-algebra content
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
  • Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology
  • Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
  • Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor

Compensation

  • $45-53K commensurate with experience
