The Children's Clinic is Hiring a Lead Laboratory Technician Near Tualatin, OR

Job Summary:
The Lead Lab Technician is responsible for receiving, testing, analyzing, recording and reporting results of their tests while assisting management with planning, leading, developing, and coordinating policies, activities and staff of the laboratory department.

Duties:

  • To provide technical and clerical support within scope of practice, to the TCC staff and providers by receiving and preparing specimens for examination/testing; performing and reporting limited analytical and quality control procedures; communicating test results to authorized recipients.
  • Performs specimen collection and phlebotomy.
  • Receive incoming specimens or blood components and log in according to department policies and work instructions.
  • Using Laboratory Quality Assurance policies or the lab’s SOPs, initiate problem solving in regards to missing, inadequate or compromised specimens or blood components.
  • Prepare specimen for testing on-site or for shipment to specific testing laboratory as necessary.
  • Under technical supervision, perform moderate complexity testing according to CLIA regulations.
  • Following Confidentiality policy, provide test results to authorized recipients by consulting either the electronic or paper information sources
  • Serve as a resource person by answering questions or providing instructions related to specimen collection and processing and/or the TCC Lab SOPs.
  • Support accurate record keeping by preparing accession logs, initiating worksheets, creating and maintaining files.
  • Compile data for workload auditing, quality assurance monitors, research and patient history.
  • Perform quality control and maintain records of routine maintenance procedures specific to the work area.
  • Record any action taken to correct unacceptable quality control or equipment functions.
  • Conduct environmental safety checks where applicable.
  • Collect and package bio-hazardous and chemical waste for disposal.
  • Ensure adequate levels of supplies in the work area through timely inventory and ordering practices. Order products and supplies through purchasing or specific vendor. Ensure all supplies are correctly labeled.
  • Prepare and label reagents according to work instructions.
  • Perform all tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform accurate sample testing and reporting of patient test results.
  • Communicate needed updates, clarification, or changes to Technical Consultant/Lab Director.
  • Responsible for the initial training of new staff. The point person for other staff training, and shadowing.
  • Ensure proficiency testing is assigned, completed, and submitted on time.
  • Coordinate with management/Technical Consultant on training plans, needs, changes etc.
  • See that all quality control is printed, reviewed, and filed in the appropriate binders for TC/LD review monthly.
  • Contribute design workflows that best fit the laboratory and clinical needs.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.

Preferred: Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training program

WORK EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in phlebotomy and/or healthcare

LICENSE/ CERTTIFICATION: CPR/BLS.

Preferred: Phlebotomist (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Clinical knowledge and skills with the patient population of the clinical areas of the position.
  • Knowledge of the evidence-based practice process.
  • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic medical record
  • Capability to make accurate patient observations, communicate, and record them
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to blood collection
  • Knowledge of safety practices
  • Demonstrated skill with laboratory information systems

Competitive pay: Commensurate with relevant work experience.
