Children’s Center of Wayne County (TCC) is home to specialized clinical, foster care, and support services. Job Summary

The therapist will work with assigned school personnel in order to meet the needs of the child/children being referred from each school. The therapist will be a member of the school team and will assist with the development and implantation of an appropriate coordinated plan of care in order to provide behavioral health support and services to general education children within Macomb County schools. The therapist is an employee of The Children’s Center but day-to-day operations are managed by the Macomb Intermediate School District.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, or PhD Psychology
  • Valid Michigan licensure appropriate to degree (LPC, LMSW, PhD Psychology – limited license acceptable)
  • 1 year of behavioral health experience with children, including, but not limited to; counseling, therapy, and/or evidenced based approach treatment
  • Training in trauma treatment, as well as crisis intervention techniques
  • Experience in completing comprehensive assessments as well as treatment plans
  • Ability to provide training to school personnel when necessary
  • Strong skills in working as a member of a team, and leading a team
  • Must be self-directed
  • Strong and effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple types of professionals

Essential Functions

  • Complete clinical assessment on referred child
  • Develop a treatment plan with long and short term goals that are measurable, and outcome based
  • Provide crisis intervention services when necessary
  • Provide therapy utilizing CBT, trauma informed, or other related approaches as necessary
  • Ensure that a transition or completion plan is fully communicated to all involved parties
  • Work as part of a team within the assigned school
  • Work with child and parent to obtain any recommended community based assistance or services
  • Provide any necessary community based referrals (CMH, outpatient clinics, etc.)
  • Assist with Medicaid applications where necessary
  • Complete all documentation as required within proper time frames
  • Collect all necessary data as requested by C4S coordinator or Director of Special Education
  • Develop and provide training to school personnel when required
  • Commitment to support and encourage equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to spend periods of time in the car traveling to schools throughout Macomb County
  • Ability to prepare and inspect documents in hard copy or electronic format. Ability to tolerate exposure to computer screens and operate computer/keyboard and other office equipment on a frequent and/or continuous basis.
  • Ability to receive and exchange information and accurately and effectively communicate and converse with others.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 Lbs.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
