The Children's Center of Hamden Inc is Hiring a DIRECT CARE WORKER Near Hamden, CT

Position Summary:

The Direct Care Worker is a role model and is responsible for the care and guidance of individuals. The nature of care varies to some extent in accordance with needs of individuals. The work may involve physical care, supervision and personal hygiene. Guidance in work, study, social, spiritual, and recreational activities may also be assigned. Employees supervise the individuals in housekeeping responsibilities and in the formalized and non-formalized recreational and leisure time activities. Direct Care Workers record observed behaviors and interactions with groups and peers. Employees may have food service and housekeeping responsibilities. The employee will be accountable to the Program Supervisor and/or the Program Director. Duties include crisis prevention and intervention, crisis counseling, and monitoring of individuals in crisis. The employee will be expected to perform in all programs assigned and expected to perform other related duties as assigned.

Hours:

This is a full-time unionized, 40 hours per week position.

We are currently seeking applicants interested in 2nd Shift positions (2:30 PM to 10:30 PM).

Salary Range:

$16.32 - $20.02 - Salary is based on years of experience, degree and medication administration certification.


Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

Two years of experience in the field of human services is preferred. Knowledge of direct care and of teaching methods. Ability to understand challenges of individuals served, identify needs, and to resolve conflicts as they arise. Ability to maintain discipline and order. Interest in human service and mature judgment in dealing with their behavior problems.

A Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record is required. Must be able to transport individuals to and from program, and to off grounds activities and appointments.

Education:

High school diploma/GED required.
