Summary

The Community School Director is responsible for the implementation, integration, alignment and the coordination of the community school strategy. Working in a school setting, the Community School Director is also accountable to the school principal and is therefore expected to plan and align all programs, services and opportunities in support of the school’s goals that are outlined in the Comprehensive Educational Plan. This leader empowers, builds, creates and develops relationships with school leaders, stakeholders, and community organizations to ensure that the barriers to learning that may exist for each student are eliminated and all students graduate. He/she strategizes with appropriate personnel to ensure the optimal delivery of high-quality services. Responsible for the strategic oversight of monitoring budget, audits and all components of Program compliance.

Essential Functions:

o Implement a menu of needs-driven, high-quality programs and services in adherence with the community school model, including but not limited to early childhood programs, expanded learning and enrichment opportunities, health services, parent/family engagement, adult education, direct material assistance and interventions targeted to chronically absent students.

o Ensure the alignment and integration of all programming with the principal’s vision and school day curriculum to the fullest extent possible.

o Collaborate with the Principal to effectively execute and maintain partnerships.

o Form partnerships with agencies in the community that enrich the school environment and will provide services for children and families. These services can include mental health support, afterschool programs, implementing summer camps, arts, sports, health/dental, adult programs, and mentoring services etc.

o Coordinate needs and resource assessment activities on an ongoing basis, employing a variety of strategies and including a broad cross-section of stakeholders.

o Hire, train and supervise all staff responsible for the delivery of high-quality programming.

o Convene the site-based Community School Leadership Team, a coordinating body that is co-led by the principal and Community School Coordinator and may comprise administrators, teachers, support services staff, partners, parents, community members and others to identify needs, set priorities and coordinate the community school strategy.

o Increase and strengthen family engagement initiatives. Supervise and develop family and community development coordinator.

o Develop and implement the “Success Mentor” initiative (Primary-person) programming to support student academic success, to increase attendance and to ensure personalized support for students.

o Develop systems to track and evaluate programming progress and evaluate the effectiveness of the community school’s activities. Create a system in which data will inform the practices and interventions of the community school.

o Participate in ongoing capacity building activities and professional development.

o Facilitates the “Collaborative planning” meetings with the principal to ensure the program budget is being utilized in accordance with the CEP goals and with the principal’s approval. This budget management meeting occurs 3 times each year.

o Host an annual Community Forum to solicit feedback. their evaluation and suggestions for improvement from parents, students, school administrators and community members about the community school strategy. The evaluation is based on the following community school priority areas: Attendance, Academic instruction, Community partnerships, Family Engagement, School Climate and Culture and Mental Health and Wellness.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages the overall implementation, direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Community School strategy. This leader builds collaborative relationships and is culturally competent. This Manager holds and promotes a growth and equity mindset. This director takes initiative to execute well designed action plans. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the agency policies and applicable laws. Deep understanding and knowledge of budget management. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, directing work, rewarding, disciplining employees, performance reviews, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

● Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration or related field.

● Certification may be required.

● 8 years’ experience in a similar role, minimum of 2 years’ supervising staff.

● Demonstrated competence in counseling, supervision, and working knowledge of community program administration and planning.

● Bilingual in one or more of the following: Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Bengali and others, may be required depending on client needs.

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

● Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently. ● Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task.

The director may have to make multiple site visits throughout the day and week.

● Work is performed in an office environment with normal heating and cooling.
