The Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine Inc is Hiring an Anesthesia Veterinary Technician Near North Haven, CT
General Description of Position:
Anesthesia technician for the specialty surgeons. This person will work with the scheduler and other anesthesia technicians to safely anesthetize patients for procedures. They will also assist in daily activities such as outpatient appointments, treatments and inpatient management.
Essential Functions:
Report to work at scheduled time
2 years or more of anesthetic experience preferred
Must be a CVT or CVT eligible
Can lift and restrain up to 40lbs
Must have a general knowledge of surgical instrument identification, care and sterilization techniques. Will be trained on more specialized instrument care.
Must have general knowledge of the anesthesia machine parts and functions, as well as how to troubleshoot problems with the machine.
Must monitor patients under anesthesia and communicate during the procedure on patient status
Must maintain aseptic technique for every procedure
Develop the ability to formulate an anesthetic plan and troubleshoot anesthetic complications.
Develop the ability to perform advanced techniques such as epidurals, local blocks, multi-lumen catheter placements, arterial catheters, etc.
Develop the ability to use the anesthetic ventilator safely, as well as knowing when it is appropriate to use it.
Develop the ability to administer various transfusions (pRBC, FFP, albumin, etc)
Ability to use a multi-parameter monitor and trouble shoot issues
Develop the ability to take quality orthopedic and soft tissue radiographs
Maintain a thorough anesthetic record for each patient.
Ability to professionally communicate with clients during consults, admits, discharges, call backs, rechecks, etc.
Ability to perform suture removals and recognize concerns with the incision. Report concerns to the attending clinician.
Develop knowledge of the surgical procedure being performed as well as complications that may arise. Be able to communicate these things with the ICU staff that is taking care of them post operatively.
Create treatment sheets, script and fill medications if you are directed to do so by the clinician.
Able to properly run bloodwork and correctly package and submit samples to various lab locations
Ability to follow all Central Hospital’s Standard Operating Procedures on:
Patient preparation
Scrubbing, gowning and gloving
OR etiquette
Daily, weekly and monthly OR cleaning schedules
Anesthetic Machine set up

Work Environment:
Clean and well organized exam rooms and surgery suites
Easily accessible medical equipment and supplies
Noisy conditions can occur
Protective equipment for nervous animals is easily accessible
SOP handbooks are easily accessible
Nights and weekends may be required. Holidays will be required.
