Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services

Department of Public Health

Assistant Professor

Starting Date:

August, 2024

Minimum Qualifications:

1) An earned doctorate in a public health-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent); or in combination with an M.P.H., a doctorate in a closely-related discipline is required. However, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/19/2024).

2) Interest in teaching and mentoring students in public health.

3) Evidence of research, scholarship, or creative activities in the health, wellbeing, and/or healthcare of diverse, urban and/or rural populations, such as evidence of scholarly publications, conference abstracts/presentations, and/or grant funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Evidence of successful teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in one or more of the following areas: community health, health promotion, health services, health policy, health administration, health communication, epidemiology, biostatistics, or environmental health.

2) Demonstrated experience with community engagement, service learning, and/or service in professional organizations and associations.

3) Demonstrated expertise in public health or a closely related discipline.

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Other responsibilities of instructional faculty may also include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participation in program accreditation activities, service on various departmental/college/University committees, and participation in pedagogical and/or andragogic training to maintain instructional currency. Faculty members are encouraged to engage students through their scholarly activities (e.g., research, community service, experiential learning).

Salary:

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (anticipated hiring range: $82,800 - $85,020 annually).

The College:

The Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services includes schools of Criminal Justice and Criminalistics, Nursing, Social Work, and Kinesiology, and departments of Public Health, Communication Disorders, Nutrition and Food Science, and Child and Family Studies. The schools and departments offer a wide variety of specialized courses including courses in audiology, child development, community health, community leadership, criminal justice, criminalistics, environmental health, exercise and human performance, food science and technology, forensic mental health, nursing, nutritional science, parenting, physical education, rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise, social work and speech-language pathology.

The Department:

Our Department offers an undergraduate degree in Public Health with an emphasis on Community Health, and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Urban Community Health. The two programs serve over 500 undergraduate majors and over 50 MPH students per academic year, making our Department one of the largest in the University. Our department has strong relationships with Los Angeles County communities as well as the Los Angeles Department of Public Health and California Department of Public Health. The Department also fosters and values close relationships with the many community-based organizations that strengthen our teaching and involve students as interns and/or volunteers. The Department is committed to effectively training future public health professionals, impactful scholarship in support of health equity, and making ongoing and substantial contributions to the university’s commitment to “Engagement, Service, and the Public Good.”

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies by an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
