Lower School - Kindergarten Classroom Faculty, Seattle, WA

Full-Time (1.0 FTE), Salary/Exempt

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Lower School team as a Lower School Kindergarten Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. We are building a team in which diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and talents are valued in order to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and families. The Lower School Kindergarten Faculty member reports to the Lower School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Lower School Faculty and Staff. This position will be responsible for teaching Kindergarten, in addition to working with students and families.

While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:

  • Create and sustain classroom culture based on mission and values of the school
  • Design, prepare and deliver instructional activities that emphasize experiential learning experiences
  • Teach Math, Literacy, Science, Social Studies, and build the foundation of social emotional learning for our youngest students
  • Have experience teaching an experiential curriculum that balances inquiry and creativity while following clear end of year grade level outcome
  • Create a child centered, nurturing, and non-competitive learning environment
  • Create opportunities for children to thrive and take risks
  • Accept and respect children as individuals who feel a part of a group and a community
  • Develop students’ sense of self-confidence and self esteem
  • Differentiate instructional resources/methods to meet students’ varying needs
  • Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and in the curriculum
  • Collaborate with school counselor to establish and maintain social emotional learning and wellness for all students
  • Work closely with learning coordinator to support varying learning styles and needs in the classroom
  • Establish positive classroom expectations with a responsive behavior management style creating a safe and comfortable environment for all students
  • Create and sustain effective parent/guardian partnerships
  • Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records on progress, to include drafting detailed and thoughtful report cards
  • Communicate effectively with students’ families around student progress and classroom news
  • Routinely plan and prepare outside the scheduled school day
  • Participate positively in meetings, activities/committees such as community events and school admissions
  • Collaborate and work effectively in teams with colleagues
  • Proactively participate in professional learning opportunities at The Bush School and in the larger community

Experience and Professional Competencies:

  • Experience teaching Kindergarten, with 3 or more years preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development and growth in this area is required

  • An ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff, students and families in order to maintain constructive and professional relationships
  • A commitment to completing work in a timely and thorough manner while being conscientious about assignments and deadlines
  • Have proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, and Outlook

Additional Requirements:

  • Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
  • Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings

Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:

  • Salary Range: $56,836 – $102,824 (based on years of full-time, lead teaching experience)
  • Faculty employees with a Master’s degree, PhD and/or National Certification may be eligible for additional compensation
