The Buckeye Ranch is Hiring a Mental Health Technician Trainer (2nd Shift) Near Grove, OH

This position ensures that Mental Health Technicians receive needed training to provide effective therapeutic trauma-informed care in the milieu. This position is responsible for assisting the Residential Training Supervisor with coordinating, developing, delivering, and evaluating new Mental Health Technicians during the orientation period through on-the-job training. When on a unit, serving and coaching as a Mental Health Technician, modeling best-practice methods. This position will also train and coach current Mental Health Technicians on quality assurance checks and post incident response follow up; participate in camera review of restraints; and provide CPI training. Administrative duties include scheduling and completion of new team member signoffs.

Hourly Starting Compensation: $19 - $23

Schedule: Full-time, Non-Exempt (In-person) 

  • Monday-Friday, 1pm-9pm 

Location: Grove City, Ohio

What you'll do:

  • Provides orientation activities to new hires as they transition to direct care.
  • Provides one-on-one direct scheduled coaching with each assigned trainee.
  • Teaches new team members prevention expectations and de-escalation methods.
  • Leads CPI training and coaching.
  • Assists in scheduling trainees prior to unit assignment.
  • Collaborates with the Team on unit/house assignment and other areas as needed.
  • Completes manual instruction sign off when trainees are ready to move to a unit assignment.
  • Participates in camera review of restraint and other incidents to help ensure fidelity and timely follow up. 
  • Assists clients in developing age-appropriate activities, behaviors, and interpersonal skills. Sets and obtains conformance to clear behavioral limits appropriate for the client's background and development.
  • Supervise multiple clients in milieu settings through active engagement utilizing strength-based language in interactions.
  • Supervises individual and group activities and behaviors to establish and maintain a positive treatment environment.
  • Communicates with youth in a nurturing and emotionally safe manner. Establishes rapport; maintain effective relationships with diverse individuals; listens actively & effectively. Conveys information in a non-judgmental, trauma-informed manner; recognizes and manages personal biases.
  • Provides transportation for the clients as needed.
  • Adapts to changing, unusual or unplanned situations with appropriate measures and modification of planned activities including working shifts on another unit as directed by supervisor/shift supervisor.
  • Manage behavioral health crises through appropriate interventions including using the principles ‘Regulate, Relate, Reason.’
  • Coach individual clients about behavioral and socialization norms, skills, and boundaries to encourage improving levels of individual adjustment to participation in group situations.
  • Consistently exhibits and models professionalism in language, dress, and manner. Is courteous in all interactions with clients, families, and colleagues.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; high school diploma required.
  • 2 years of experience working with the child and adolescent population. Preferred experience working in direct care positions in milieu treatment setting.
  • Prefer CPI instructor certified; company willing to provide training.
