The Bronx High School of Science is a New York City public specialized high school with a world-wide reputation as one of the best high schools in America.

The Bronx Science Speech & Debate Team was founded in 1969 and since its inception, the team’s vision has been to strike the right balance between inclusivity and competition. Hard work, dedication and teamwork paid off as the team earned a reputation for excellence at the highest level of competition. The team today boasts more than 300 members, and each year competes at more than 50 tournaments locally, regionally, and nationally. The leadership of Bronx Science has a long-standing commitment to the ongoing excellence of the Speech & Debate Team and has unwavering support from the community of students, parents, and alumni to meet these goals.

Bronx Science seeks a Head Coach of Extemporaneous Speaking to lead the Extemp squad. Responsibilities include:

o Lead the Extemp squad, part of the Bronx Science Speech & Debate Team
o Implement a curriculum to help students improve their skills including but not limited to giving topic lectures, developing unique contentions and cards, creating research assignments and assessing student work designed to improve critical writing, analytical thinking, research and public speaking.
o Schedule and run practices weekly. In person is preferred but online coaching will be considered.
o Travel with the team to tournaments locally, regionally, and nationally
o Communicate consistently and regularly with key constituents including students and adult school leadership.

A successful candidate will possess the following:

o Bachelor’s degree or in progress toward obtaining a bachelor’s degree
o Prior experience coaching or participating in Extemp with success at the TOC and the highest levels of national circuit congressional debate.
o Ability to be in-person and/or remote
o Passion for Speech & Debate and a desire to win
o Ability to coach 1-2 days per week after school and willing to coach/judge 10-20 weekends per school year.

**Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a part time job. Salary can range from $20-$40 per hour**
