Program Description: 48-unit program on the grounds of Bronx Psychiatric Center

Educational Requirements: MSW or MHC with relevant experience, including supervisory. License preferred. Supervision hours are provided for clinical licensure.

Qualifications and Experience: Experience working with mental health, crisis intervention, substance use, criminal justice, and managing trauma-triggered behavior. Excellent time management skills; stress resistant, flexible; team player; open to feedback; creative; excellent organizational skills; willingness to perform CPR/First Aid/AED/Naloxone. Experience working with justice-involved individuals. Preferred knowledge of AWARDS.

Hours: Full-Time, 35 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday 9am-5pm, on-call. Available on weekends and evenings, for coverage and emergencies, as needed.

Scope of Position:

Assist the Program Director with supervising clinical staff and planning client services and interventions at a building with 48 studio apartments in the Bronx. In conjunction with the Director, the Director of Clinical Services is responsible for supervision of clinical staff and developing an environment that recognizes the effects of trauma on behavior. Able to motivate staff to use Crisis Prevention, Intervention, and verbal de-escalation skills to manage crises.

The Director of Clinical Services will be responsible for providing supportive services to formerly homeless adults diagnosed with serious mental illness, a majority of which have a forensic background. This is an on-call position.

Essential Position Functions:

  • In conjunction with the Program Director, supervise clinical staff and all delivery of services to clients.
  • Available on call for 24-hour crisis intervention. Attends meetings as requested and willing to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.
  • Assist in the management of personnel activities, including hiring, shift scheduling, developing policies and procedures, staff meetings, case conferences, staff training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and labor/management issues.
  • Provide case management, including benefits assistance, help complete housing applications, provide links to primary and behavioral health care in the community, and housing referrals to formerly homeless adults diagnosed with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. These services are primarily provided in the client’s apartment and in community settings.
  • Serve as a critical member of the treatment team, working with other providers in diagnosing struggles, formulating and carrying out interventions, and evaluating clients to support them in increasing their independence.
  • Assist with observation and education regarding medication in accordance with OMH regulations.
  • Assist in identifying strengths, needs, abilities, and goals and create related Service Plans in electronic client records system.
  • Assist Program Director in all required administrative duties, data entry, monitor performance measures, program audit preparation, and monitoring staff attendance.
  • Motivate clients to develop skills needed to maintain housing and compliance with legal obligations. Assist and encourage individuals to develop natural supports and include these.
  • Timely completion of required documentation for every client contact as per agency policy. Ensure documentation meets regulatory guidelines for level of care. Prepare documentation, including psychosocial assessments (and psychiatric evaluations, if licensed), for 2010E hosing applications.
  • Co-facilitate groups if requested in areas including but not limited to wellness, substance use, harm reduction, and symptom management, and medication education.
  • Deliver direct care services and act as an internal consultant in onsite and offsite emergencies by providing counseling, crisis intervention and psychosocial assessments.
  • Compliance with requirements, including facilitating appropriate admissions and discharges, maintaining census, documentation, and incident reporting.
  • Liaise with other departments and outside agencies, including the agency’s Critical Care team.
  • Ability to work with residents, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences.
  • Immediately reports incidents, allegations, or sensitive situations to supervisors. Completes incident reports in accordance with Bridge policy. Accounts for residents, performs diligent searches, and files missing person reports on residents not accounted for in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Attend staff meetings, supervision and trainings as required.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.
