The Branch Group is Hiring a CONTROLLER II Near Roanoke, VA

Position Summary

The Controller is the Business Unit's Head Accountant and is responsible for managing the Business Unit's Accounting function; this includes ensuring conformity with Branch Group accounting and administrative policies and procedures. The Controller must know all the financial pieces; where they are, what makes them up, and how they got there. The Controller is responsible for preparing financial statements, auditing, internal control, and providing insightful information to management. The Controller will report to the VP of Operational Accounting.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Prepares and analyzes the Business Unit's monthly Work in Process (WIP) contract schedule.
  • Works closely with Business Unitmanagement in monthly job reviews, forecasts, and projections.
  • Is responsible for ensuring the accounting accuracy of job projections.
  • Manages the Business Unit's annual Budgeting process from the Financial Side, working with Operations Management to accomplish this.
  • Understands and is able to explain variances between budgeted numbers and actual numbers.
  • Manages the Business Unit's ongoing Forecasting process from the Financial Side, working with Operations Management to accomplish this.
  • Ensures that the WIP schedules are prepared in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Prepares and books the monthly WIP journal entry to make the WIP schedules match the accounting general ledger.
  • Manages the relationships with the financial counterparts of our partners in any Joint Ventures.
  • Manages the Joint Venture accounting in his/her company.
Duties/Responsibilities Continued
  • Keeps companySr. Management informed of any financial issues in his/her company.
  • Works with company CFO and Vice President of Accounting in setting accounting policy for the Business Unit.
  • Manages the day-to-day aspects of the Company's accounting function.
  • Prepares and Analyzes Financial Statements for the Business Unit.
  • Prepares and presents monthly financial reviews for the Business Unit.
  • Provides operations managementand upper management with report/information to ensure that they have the necessary information to perform their jobs. Assist Project Managersin analyzing projects.
  • Maintains custody of accounting records; maintains custody of appropriate historical accountingarchives, ensuring compliance withcompany record retention schedule.
  • Reviews Business Unit's overhead.
  • Assures that all work under his/her area is performed legally, ethically, and in accordance with all Federal and State regulations and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.
  • Makes accounting journal entries as necessary and appropriate to ensure the accuracy of accounting records.
  • Performs other accounting-related tasks as deemed necessary by himself, the Company President,CFO or VP's.
  • Forecasts the company's cash.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Accounting or other Business Area, and a minimum 3 years work in a public accounting or corporate accounting environment.
  • Experience in Construction accounting a plus
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others between departments and across company lines.
  • Experience working on ERP systems.
  • Proficient in creating and using complex spreadsheets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and/or office phone and to sort through business files. They are frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. They must be able to lift up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40 hours per week.
