The Borough of Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA seeks a dynamic, motivated, and experienced individual with a proven track record of success to serve as a Recreation Specialist in its Parks and Recreation Department. The Borough’s Department of Parks and Recreation’s mission is to provide and maintain a well-balanced system of active and passive park sites and recreational facilities; to research, develop and implement a year round program of recreation, leisure, cultural and arts programming, and activities for all segments of the population; to protect open space and preserve the natural resources of the Borough; to provide assistance to youth and adult organizations, cultural groups, and civic clubs in promoting their own programming through the use of facilities all for the express purpose of enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Lansdale Borough and neighboring communities.
The function of the Recreation Specialist is to assist the Director in managing, developing, promoting, evaluating, and improving programs, services and events year-round that addresses the evolving needs of community and enhance the quality of life for Borough residents, developing mutually beneficial partnerships in the community which utilize park facilities, recruit, supervise and train seasonal pool staff, manage public relations campaigns, and serve as event liaison between the borough staff and outside agencies or organizations.
The minimum requirements of the position are an associate degree in recreation, leisure services or equivalent from an accredited educational institution and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience planning and conducting recreation programs and/or assisting in recreational projects; or, five (5) or more years’ experience in managing events or recreational programming. Preferred qualifications for the position are completion of a bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure services or other equivalent from an accredited educational institution and a minimum of two (2) years (cumulative experience) planning and conducting community recreation programs and/or assisting in projects. Municipal experience preferred, but not required. Must possess and maintain valid PA driver’s license and a good driving record. A positive approach to teamwork and customer service is essential.
The salary range is $55,000 to $60,000 commensurate with experience. The Borough offers medical, dental and vision benefits in addition to additional employer-paid benefits.
