University of Central Florida is Hiring a Strategic/Competitive Intelligence Specialist Near Orlando, FL

The Opportunity :

Reporting to the Director of Research Development (RD), the Strategic/Competitive Intelligence Specialist will be a critical member of the RD team in supporting data-related initiatives and decision-making to position the university and its faculty/research teams for success. This position will develop a portfolio of information, reports, and products to aid leadership in making informed decisions regarding strategic research areas and funding opportunities, and assess outcomes from significant research investments. Provides analyses on federal and foundation funding sponsors and on submission data maintained internally at UCF. The Specialist will identify areas of strength and opportunity utilizing available data and human intelligence, and present and advance actionable recommendations utilizing current best practices in the field of strategic intelligence.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs the timely and ethical gathering/queries of information, including but not limited to federal budget data, sponsor data, publications data, internal proposal and awards data, funding opportunities, surveys, and human intelligence. Provides ad hoc data requests and reports to support RD initiatives.

  • Coordinates the analysis, visualization, and dissemination of reports, analyses, and insights from data. Information is put into context to develop actionable intelligence to inform decision-making.

  • Communicates findings effectively in a variety of document types and formats (e.g., text, graphics, charts, tables) as appropriate to the stakeholder’s needs and preferences. May present information and findings in meetings and for recordings. Reports will also be maintained in a portfolio for future use.

  • Seeks and incorporates feedback in all documents prepared prior to release, and evaluates the effectiveness of procedures and projects for intelligence collection, coordination, and dissemination.

  • Works with RD in planning and coordinating strategic meetings related to identified areas of strategic importance to aid in growing awareness, team formation, and proposal preparation. Stays up to date on research funding news.

  • Collaborates with RD and PASS teams in supporting EARLIER (large proposal support) initiatives and assistance activities.

  • Identifies areas for potential improvement related to research admin data entry and integrity, for internal awards and proposals, and makes actionable recommendations (e.g., reports, policy changes, training).

  • Serves as liaison between internal partners (e.g., Central/Unit pre- and post-award research admins, GRIT, communications) and external partners (e.g., funding agency award database managers).

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of relevant experience in Competitive Intelligence preferred.

  • Experience with Power BI, Pivot Tables, Databases, and similar tools.

  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
