Position SummaryThe School of Theatre Arts and Dance is seeking a temporary Costume Shop Manager, for an 8-week assignment. The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the daily operations, safety, organization, and management of the School of Theatre Arts and Dance (STAD) costume shop. These duties include building, altering, and completing costume elements within all STAD production deadlines. Daily communication with the faculty costume designer. Regular communication with student, faculty, or guest costume designers, directors, stage managers regarding costume details, fittings, cleaning, and maintenance and troubleshooting; supervision of costume strike; and adherence to provided STAD budgets.

-Oversee the completion of all costume elements for STAD productions to the Costume Designer’s satisfaction and within production deadlines.
-Pattern, drape, cut, and construct costumes and accessories as needed to complete all costume elements by the production deadlines while supervising students and other shop staff.
-Alter costume and accessory elements from STAD stock or rental items by the production deadline.
-Review all notes from production meetings and performance reports for costume related items.
-Attend all costume fittings.
-Supervise, instruct, and ensure a safe working environment for all students and paid staff in the costume/wardrobe areas, including the implementation of costume shop safety standards.
-Maintain shop safety, shop activities, shop equipment, production equipment, and storage areas, including repairs, maintenance and replacements.

-Maintenance of machinery used in the costume industry including but not limited to: industrial and domestic single and multi-needle sewing machines, industrial steam irons, industrial steamers, domestic washers and dryers, and cutting tools.
-Manage shop supplies, including stock fabrics, notions and materials.
-Maintain and improve organization of storage for costumes, accessories, wigs, and other supplies.
-Train and support wardrobe crew on cleaning and maintenance of costumes during the run of the production; attend production meetings and dress rehearsals as requested by Costume Designer.
-Oversee costume strike after each production and ensure that all rental and stock costumes receive proper cleaning and are returned or restocked.
-Facilitate the pulling of costumes from STAD stock for Dance Production and School of Music, Opera Theatre productions.

Minimum QualificationsRequired: Experience managing a professional costume shop (academic, regional, Broadway)
