Position Summary:

The Investigative Associate is an entry-level, twelve-month professional exempt position and serves as a member of the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance's team of investigators. This position's primarily role is investigating and responding to campus incidents of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence as defined by UNC's Non-Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Equal Opportunity Policies involving faculty, staff, or students as reporting or responding parties.

Job Duties:

(A) InvestigateDiscrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, and Retaliation Complaints(70%): (1) Receive and process, in a timely manner, inquiries from students,faculty, staff, and administrators regarding rights and responsibilitiesconcerning harassing behavior or other discriminatory behavior in violation ofUNC’s Non-Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Equal Opportunity Policies.(2) Receive and process, in a timely manner, inquiries from third parties who reportharassing behavior or other discriminatory behavior in violation of UNC’sNon-Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Equal Opportunity Policies. (3)Notify complainants of receipt of the complaint and notify complainants of theirright to pursue remedies outside of the University grievance process. (4)Notify respondents that complaint has been made and provide them with informationand resources about their rights and responsibilities in the process. (5) Workwith Title IX Coordinator/Equity Officer to determine and implement a strategyto investigate alleged discrimination and/or harassment, including determininginterview schedules, information gathering, and coordinating withco-investigators. (6) Work with Title IX Coordinator/Equity Officer to monitorcompliance of all requirements and timelines specified in thecomplaint/grievance procedures, including informing the Title IXCoordinator/Equity Officer and University General Counsel of progress. 

(B)Documentation and Reporting (20%): (1) Generate comprehensive, accurate, andneutral investigative reports for all complaints and provide reports andfindings to the appropriate decision-maker. (2) Use Maxient data base for casemanagement and tracking, including logging contacts with parties, enteringnotes, and maintaining accurate case records. 

(C) General Support: (1) Meetregularly with the Title IX Coordinator and Equity Officer to discuss andreview progress and concerns with open matters. (2) Provide guidance and inputconcerning process improvement. (3) Support ongoing outreach initiatives oncampus. (4) Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 0 years of experience (withat least a bachelor's degree) or 4 years of related experience (in lieu of abachelor's degree)

Ability: 

Demonstrated ability to build trust and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners. Experience using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point. Ability to use computer systems and communication technologies to conduct web research on laws and policies, participate in meetings and trainings, and maintain database information. 

Preferredqualifications:

In reviewing applicants,UNC welcomes applicants who additionally have the following preferredqualifications: Two years of experience conducting investigations orinquiries related to conflict, civil rights, equal opportunity, studentconduct, law enforcement, child protection, or related; (2) training orexperience in Title IX and/or related civil rights laws; (3) experience interpretinglaws and/or policies; (4) experience working independently to completeprojects; (5) experience as a mediator or conflict coach; (6) experienceconducting investigations in a higher education environment; (7) experiencedrafting legal memos; and/or (8) master's degree in higher education,psychology, criminal justice, or a related field.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
