Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Summary: The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will design, implement, and enforce policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement operational strategy for execution of EHS programs and initiatives to ensure safety of employees.
  • Ensure facility response plans and emergency response plans are in place and effectively implemented.
  • Conduct EHS audit inspections to determine that processes are being followed and appropriate tools are in place.
  • Develop and implement injury prevention strategies and program initiatives to minimize and/or eliminate occupational injuries.
  • Monitor performance and effectiveness of the facility safety program and implement adjustments and improvement as needed.
  • Reduce risk exposure and define actions to mitigate risk.
  • Complete root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans.
  • Promote EHS awareness through various communication channels.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts in lasers, hazardous chemicals, industrial hygiene, automated equipment and robotics, occupational and environmental safety.
  • Manage and monitor Workers’ Compensation program.
  • Manage return to work/modified duty program.
  • Prepare and maintain all environmental and regulatory records and reports. Monitor legislative changes and make recommendations to leadership.
  • Develop and implement EHS operational reporting plans and dashboards.
  • Prepare and execute operational EHS budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS related laws, rules, regulations, and governmental orders.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reading and attending continuing education workshops.
  • Follow all safety procedural guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required; Experience in managing Worker's Compensation claims, claims analysis, and cost reduction; first aid and CPR certification required; supervision in a manufacturing environment preferred; OSHA VPP experience preferred; two years related work experience preferred.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and one-on-one with employees within the organization.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, spreadsheet software, inventory software, and internet software.
