SUMMARY: Habimah is a multi-disciplinary summer camp giving children, grades from 1st - 6th, the experience working with Baltimore’s master performing and visual arts teaching artists and professionals. It is the programs’ goal to enhance campers' skills and confidence by encouraging them to explore new horizons while offering exposure and skill-building in various realms within visual and performing arts in a warm and supportive environment. Each camp day consists of several workshops within these fields, and concluding each two-week camp session, there is a final showcase on the Gordon stage, demonstrating what they've learned. Outside of class time with the artists, this program also incorporates swimming, outdoor time, and field trips.The Habimah Arts Director will be responsible for maintaining high standards with the appointed teaching artists and counselor staff, parent correspondence, administrative assignments, directing and coordinating biweekly showcases, and other duties assigned by the DYAE. The ideal Habimah director is a multi-tasking team player, an excellent communicator, willing to go above and beyond for Habimah families and staff, is prepared to be a role model within the arts and JCC communities and has experience and loves teaching children of all ages. The Habimah Arts Director must have an overall understanding and wide range of experience within several fields of the performing and visual arts. This position may also require teaching a few classes within their art form to campers. Must have reliable transportation. Applicants with full summer availability is required.WHAT YOU WILL DO:Deliver and manage a quality arts camp program that meets the needs and interests of campers while maintaining a safe environment.Oversee the daily operation of the summer camp including program, camper, teaching artists, and staff supervision.Manage and supervise counselors:Take part in planning orientation and closing meetings.Lead staff meetings as necessary. Assure counselors are meeting expectations.Provide individual feedback throughout the summer and as a part of mid and end of summer evaluations.Supervise teaching artists: Approve and revise curriculums from teaching artists and ensure that goals and expectations for each session are being met. Consistently monitor the quality of classes and provide feedback for adjustments if necessary.Oversee teaching artist needs for supplies and materials, with regard to budget and consultation from the supervisor.If called upon, provide and implement age-appropriate camp curriculum within the teaching artists specified field, and able to lead large groups of campers in said class if asked to teach a class or sub in for an absent staff member.Implement daily schedule each camp day.Confirm logistics to all staff and manage safety. Oversee and maintain safety protocols during swim, lunch, special events, and field trips.Work with the Gordon team and teaching artists to design the culminating showcases.Collaborate with each teaching artist to create an emcee script for each final showcase.Create and communicate a clear showcase run of dress rehearsal and show for both TAs and the Gordon team.Be proactive about parent, camper, staff needs and expectations while consistently monitoring the overall camper experience.Helping lead and manage special events, time at the pool, carpool duties, and so on.Lead communication efforts:Send weekly updates to both JCamps administration and camper families about what to expect, what campers have learned, details about the showcase if applicable, and what’s next in the campers week ahead.Work collaboratively with other JCC staff and programs on campus as well as external groups to ensure the enhancement of the camp operation.Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members. Participate in training, orientations, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees, and special events. Perform other duties as assigned.WHO YOU ARE:Experienced within several art forms and a general understanding and appreciation with those that are more unfamiliar with.Several years of experience of teaching children ages 6-13.Experience overseeing and managing large groups of staff.Strong organization, communication, and collaboration, along with the ability to be flexible. Energy and passion for working with youth and children in a recreational camp setting.Comfortable with Jewish culture Ability and passion to create inclusive environments for all campers; Driven to acknowledge and respect all campers racial, cultural, and gender identities.College degree within an artistic field is preferred. PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The workplace may be noisy at times.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Salary Range: $5000 dependent on experience.JCC Membership: Upon completion of orientation and successful summer employment, summer hires will be gifted a JCC membership to utilize the JCC facilities through December 31st, 2024.All full-time summer hires receive their first child free to attend JCamps. Discounts for camp are also available dependent on hours worked.COMMITMENT:Looking for full day commitment the entire summer, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM daily. Summer camps begin June 24th and conclude August 16th; Four 2-week sessions. Must be available for precamp monthly leadership staff meetings, training sessions with supervisor, and weekly after camp staff meetings.
