SUMMARY: Children’s Theatre Production Camp (CTPC) at JCamps is hiring a full-time Assistant Director for the upcoming 2024 summer season. In two four-week sessions, CTPC will offer two musical theatre production-based summer camps for grades from 1st - 8th. Each camp day will include musical theatre preparatory classes, auditions, rehearsal, and the final product of a full production. CTPC Kids will perform on an intimate stage-like space with the basic theatrical elements while CTPC Jr will perform on the Gordon stage. CTPC Kids (1st - 2nd) will meet from June 24-July 19 and CTPC Jr (3rd – 8th ) will meet from July 22-August 16. Both programs also incorporate swimming and field trips. Selected counselors will be working alongside both the assistant director and director to help run rehearsals, review material with campers, work backstage for the production, and any other duties assigned to them in relation to the show. The ideal CTPC Assistant Director is a multi-tasking team player, an excellent communicator, willing to go above and beyond for CTPC families and staff, is prepared to be a role model within the arts and JCC communities and has experience and loves teaching children of all ages. Under the supervision of Director of Youth Arts Education, the CTPC Assistant Director will be responsible for fully directing the CTPC KIDS musical production. They must also maintain CTPC’s high standards the appointed counselor staff, parent correspondence, administrative assignments, coordinate schedules with the artistic staff. They must also discuss, plan, and source the CTPC KIDS set and costumes with other creative staff members. The CTPC Assistant Director will also be responsible for helping run rehearsals with the DYAE for CTPC JR mainstage production. The CTPC Assistant Director must have extensive experience in and teaching musical theatre to all ages. A background in musical theatre choreography and/or extensive dance background is preferred. Must have reliable transportation. Applicants with full summer availability is required. WHAT YOU WILL DO:Help deliver and manage a quality musical theatre camp program that meets the needs and interests of campers. Ensures their success in a safe and quality environment.With the supervision of the DYEA, the CTPC Assistant Director will be directing the CTPC KIDS production and act second in command to CTPC JrCTPC Assistant Director is prepared to step in all varies positions throughout the summer and within the rehearsal processes.CTPC Assistant Director is prepared to take on meetings with the CPTC Director in preproduction, continuing collaboration, and decision making regarding both musicals. These meetings will likely need to be scheduled on days or evenings before the summer takes place.Assists in overseeing the daily operation of the summer camp including program, camper, other creative team members, and staff supervision.Help manage and supervise CTPC counselors:Assure counselors are meeting expectations.Help to work with the Gordon team and DYAE to design the culminating shows.Assist in creating and communicating a clear run of dress rehearsals and show for both productions and the Gordon team.Implement daily schedule each camp day.Confirm logistics to all staff and manage safety. Oversee and maintain safety protocols during swim, lunch, special events, and field trips.Be proactive about parent, camper, staff needs and expectations while consistently monitoring the overall camper experience.Leads in most communication efforts:Send weekly updates to both JCamps administration and camper families about what to expect, what campers have learned, details about the tech and show week if applicable, and what’s next in the campers week ahead. CTPC Jr/Teen Assistant Director handles much of the parent communication, consulting those on the team that may need to answer specific questions, and emails others when needing to organize CTPC events. Work collaboratively with other JCC staff and programs on campus as well as external groups to ensure the enhancement of the camp operation.Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members. Participate in training, orientations, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees, and special events. Perform other duties as assigned.WHO YOU ARE:Experience in and teaching or directing musical theatre productions to a variety of age groups and experience levels. Several years of experience of teaching children ages 6-13.Experience overseeing and managing large groups of staff.Strong organization, communication, and collaboration, along with the ability to be flexible. Energy and passion for working with youth and children in a recreational camp setting.Comfortable with Jewish culture Ability and passion to create inclusive environments for all campers; Driven to acknowledge and respect all campers racial, cultural, and gender identities.College degree within an artistic field is preferred.Choreography and dance background combined with theatre is preferred. PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The workplace may be noisy at times.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Salary Range: $5,000JCC Membership: Upon completion of orientation and successful summer employment, summer hires will be gifted a JCC membership to utilize the JCC facilities through December 31st, 2024. All full-time summer hires receive their first child free to attend JCamps. Discounts for camp are also available dependent on hours worked. COMMITMENT:Looking for full day commitment the entire summer, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM daily. Summer camps begin June 24th and conclude August 16th; Two 4-week sessions. Must be available for precamp monthly leadership staff meetings, training sessions with supervisor, and weekly after camp staff meetings.
