Program Description : The Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies, located on the campus of the Aspen Institute in Colorado, opened on June 26, 2022.

This 7,000-square-foot exhibition space is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the artist and designer Herbert Bayer (1900-1985), who studied and taught at the Bauhaus before emigrating from Germany to the United States in 1938.

Between 1946 and 1975, Bayer was instrumental in Aspen's postwar revitalization, designing the Aspen Institute campus and shaping the organization's early artistic and programmatic vision.

The Center promotes a fuller understanding of Bayer-one of the leading figures to translate the Bauhaus movement into an American context-and his contributions to art, design, and architecture.

It anchors the Aspen Institute's campus-wide visual arts program, which includes over 9,000 square feet of gallery space and multiple site-specific outdoor art installations.

Basic Function : The Bayer Center seeks a seasoned curator with Museum experience, preferably with expertise in the Bauhaus and Herbert Bayer specifically, and a robust record of exhibitions and publications, to provide curatorial expertise to the Executive Director and the Center's stakeholders.

This position reports to the Executive Director and provides leadership in content development across Education and Communication teams within the Bayer Center.

The Curator performs research, organizes, and implements a schedule of exhibitions for the Bayer Center and the Aspen Institute's Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen, CO.

This position is a crucial member of the Bayer Center team with broad responsibilities, including managing all aspects of exhibition curation and execution.

The Curator represents the Center and the organization with national communities and leads efforts to partner with other museums and cultural institutions.

This position reports to the Executive Director. This position has a salary range of $80,000 - $100,000. This position is remote.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Propose, curate, and organize collection displays and loan exhibitions (in any medium), including the writing and preparation of related scholarly catalogs, brochures, didactic texts, wall texts, and online resources.

Coordinate with outside curators and institutions involved in the museum's exhibition program.Oversee preparation of exhibition design and installation and recommend topics for future exhibitions and catalogs.

As related to exhibitions, represent the Center within the scholarly community through participation in panels, symposia, and other forums.

Work with the Executive Director on budget and planning related to exhibitions.Partner with Penner Manager of Educational Programming to develop and implement exhibition-related programming to engage the Center's wider regional community.

Help prepare and edit materials to promote, publicize, and interpret exhibitions and related programs.Deliver lectures and talks related to the exhibitions throughout the year to serve as the primary representative of the exhibitions.

Knowledge, Education, and Experience : MA in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related discipline with an emphasis on Bauhaus.

Knowledge of Herbert Bayer and Bauhaus movement and a keen interest in developing connections and relevance between this history and the present.

Five-plus years of museum experience, including a distinguished record of exhibitions, publications, and patron and press cultivation in a museum context.

Excellence in public speaking to a wide range of audiences-whether in person or via digital channels-including students, patrons, colleagues, and the general public.

A strong and diverse network of professional contacts in the field.Outstanding writing, editing, organizational, management, and communication skills.

Ability to represent the Bayer Center with high integrity and professionalism, adhere to Aspen Institute policies, and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.

Collegiality with stakeholders, the public, Institute Trustees, donors, and volunteers.Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.

Effective communication with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
