Qualifications REQUIRED:
- Minimum 2-3 year industry experience working as a gardener/estate gardener, at retail nursery or equivalent.
- A qualified candidate must come prepared with a strong horticulture background and detailed knowledge of perennials, annuals, woody plants in terms of their identification, cultural conditions, growing/flowering seasons and growth rate.
- Must possess a base knowledge of pruning techniques, planting and installation layout.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including extensive computer skills: Word, Excel, Google Suite.
- 2 years working with complex database systems and/or drafting.
- Experience in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, DynaScape or other Landscape software.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Experience in professional plant procurement and nursery care.
- Experience measuring and drafting properties.
- Ability to follow directions, keep on top of complex tasks and see project through to completion.
- Must work well independently and as a team member.
- Able and willing to assist in garden tasks as needed.
- Able to maintain accuracy while working at a fast pace.
- Willing to work outside in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Energetic and healthy; able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Reliable transportation.
Qualifications PREFERRED:
- Experience in Vectorworks Landscape software.
- Experience in container design.
- Experience designing residential gardens.
DESIGN ASSOCIATE DUTIES:
Measuring, Drafting & Design:
- Implements small garden designs for current maintenance clients at Management request.
- Designs and implements specified client containers.
- Assists Owner with new design projects by visiting sites with owner, taking notes and collaborating with Owner.
- Work with Design Assistant to measure gardens for current and prospective clients.
- Draft/Draw plans for Designer as requested for current and prospective clients.
- Works with Design Assistant to develop Vectorworks for Company at Owner’s request.
Plant Purchasing support for Design Assistant:
- Keeps accurate record of all plant purchases and plant nursery inventory using Drive documents.
- Ensures Office Coordinator has accurate documentation of purchases for each client.
- Travels to different nurseries assigned by Owner to pick up specified plants and delivers to clients and nursery.
- Procures maintenance fill-in plants and insures Maintenance Manager has correct information for scheduling planting.
- Keeps nursery plants watered and healthy.
Research, Record-keeping and Development:
- Ensures up-to-date photo documenting of installations and gardens is supplied to Office Coordinator for proper record keeping.
- Assists Owner as requested in promoting the image of the Artful Garden through the development and upkeep of website and other forms.
- Researches plant availability, plant substitutions as requested by Owner.
Installation Lead:
- Procures plants for installation; keeps accurate recordkeeping.
- Prepares plants for delivery to clients assuring full inventory ready by installation date.
- Informs Owner of any inventory shortages, secures replacement.
- Acts as lead during installation: layout, planting, cleanup, photo recordkeeping, communication to Office Coordinator of exact inventory.
Works with Maintenance Team:
- Works with Project Manager and Maintenance Manager as requested to perform first time walkthroughs with clients.
- Works as Garden Coach alongside specific clients as scheduled by Management.
Horticulturist:
- Works in scheduled gardens at the request of Project Manager and/or Owner.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION:
Depending on applicant, this is a part-time Design Associate or full time Design Associate/Horticulturist position. All employees receive 7 days holiday pay, accrued paid time off and employee stipends and bonuses. Full-time employees are entitled to health care benefits.
Starting pay rate DOE $27-30/hour.
