Salary Grade 6

About the Position

This administrative, research and exhibition planning position runs from date of hiring through December 31, 2024 and is full-time connected to upcoming exhibitions on Pan-Africanism at the Art Institute. The person in this position will be assigned to Photography and Media, one of the museum's curatorial departments.

Responsibilities

• Compilation and maintenance of files — electronic and physical — pertaining to areas of exhibition research
• Scholarly investigations to facilitate establishment of an exhibition checklist and preparation of essays or other contributions to the exhibition catalogue
• All aspects (except financial) of planning and execution of travel for the exhibition by curators affiliated with the Art Institute
• Interactions with lenders, scholars, artists and other outside contributors to the exhibition
• Collaboration with Exhibitions, and Collections and Loans, in furtherance of exhibition goals such as loan forms and transport arrangements
• Collaboration with Experience Design in preparation of exhibition design and associated graphics
• Collaboration with Publishing in preparation of exhibition catalogue
• Collaboration with Interpretation in preparation of exhibition texts

Qualifications:

• College-level research in art history and particularly in an area of African or diasporic art
• Fluency in either Portuguese or Arabic
