We offer a Sign-on Bonus of $1000.00!Available Shift: Mon - Fri 7am-3pm , 3pm-11pmPosition OverviewThe Arc is seeking a full-time/ part-time Residential Counselor to work throughout PG County. The Residential Counselor is responsible for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in a community-based home. The Residential Counselor primarily provides assistance to the individuals in the development of linkages to the community through recreation planning, transportation, accompaniment to community-based events, and personal care as needed. Other responsibilities include providing assistance with household maintenance, budgetary/financial management, shopping, and meal preparation.
Here’s a Snapshot of What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day:Healthcare
  • Implements Nursing Plans and follows up on nursing recommendations.
  • Handles medical appointments as assigned. Arrives for appointments on time, with appropriate information about the individual’s medical history and current condition.
  • Administers medications according to regulations.
  • Observes and documents medical issues in a clear and timely manner, providing follow-up as required.
Individual Plan Implementation And Maintenance
  • Reviews plan and demonstrate familiarity with each individual’s plan.
  • Implements each individual’s plan as prescribed and asks for clarity if necessary.
  • Records data on outcomes and Target Behaviors accurately and promptly.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with Behavior Support Plans and implements plans in a consistent manner.
Incident Reporting
  • Demonstrates good judgment when reacting to incidents or resident injuries.
  • Follows the agency’s policies and procedures for reporting incidents.
  • Completes incident reports completely, correctly, and promptly.
Community Integration And Participation
  • Locates and facilitates individual’s participation in community and leisure activities to include sharing information about new activities, and providing transportation to appointments or activities in a personal automobile.
  • Encourages regular exercise and healthy lifestyles via training, planning, and advocacy.
  • Coordinates support so the individual may worship as he/she chooses to include transportation to the house of worship when indicated.
  • Actively encourages family involvement.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and flexibility.
Personal Care
  • Provides instruction, guidance, follow-up, monitoring, and assistance, when necessary, in personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Assists with and/or dispenses medications and other medical treatments to the individual as necessary.
Financial Management
  • Assists individual with the responsible management of his/her personal funds as per the Individual Plan.
  • Provides assistance with banking as per the Individual Plan.
Communication And Documentation
  • Uses effective, respectful, and frequent communication with the individual and the individual’s family members and/or other - interested parties.
  • Documents and completes required records and reports in a clear, consistent, and legible manner.
  • Communicate with the family to ensure appropriate support is provided to the individual served.
  • Provides training to relief staff members. Provides training documentation to the Administrative Supervisor.
  • Submits paperwork that is complete and legible by prescribed due dates.
  • Accurately records work hours on a timesheet.
  • Accurately records mileage on travel reimbursement log.
Household Maintenance
  • Performs household tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrates willingness to maintain a household.
  • Takes initiative in cleaning/completing chores or making minor repairs or situational enhancements such as changing a light bulb or shoveling a path through the snow that extends from the door to the driveway or street.
  • Demonstrates awareness of safety measures.
  • Prepares meals according to the preferences and special diets of the individuals.
  • Promotes a pleasant, family-style atmosphere at mealtimes.
Professionalism
  • Demonstrates appropriate workplace behavior, modeling the agency’s philosophy.
  • Demonstrates positive role-model behavior.
  • Maintains confidentiality in regards to Individuals and in relation to staff issues.
General
  • Completes all required training and updates on time.
  • Demonstrates respectful interactions.
  • Operates as a team player.
  • Is Punctual; begins and ends work on time.
  • Is Dependable; comes to work when scheduled.
You Are The Ideal Candidate If You Have
  • A high school diploma.
  • At least 1 year of related experience working with children or adults in a caregiving setting.
  • Good driving record, reliable vehicle, and valid, current Driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years with no more than 2 points on the license.
  • Successfully completed the training requirements of The Arc.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated caregiving skills.
MentalMust respond professionally to stressful situations. May require lifting.
Working ConditionsWorks in the residential home and must be able to respond to emergencies effectively.
