 Summary:

Provides navigation to families receiving funding through Agency with Choice (AWC) and the Department of Education and Secondary Education (DESE). The Family Supports and Recreation Coordinator assists these families with service planning, budgeting, goal development, and training. Responsible for supporting individuals with disabilities in community recreation outings, self-advocacy, and other family supports programs. The staff will oversee and facilitate the participants in weekend and evening events. The Family Supports and Recreation Coordinator plans events, creates marketing materials, works with individuals and families to register, and participates in all planned recreation activities. This includes reconciling receipts and balancing funds.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday (10am-6pm) 40 hr/week

Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with the Program Director in delivering service standards of excellence and ensures operational compliance within the assigned program in accordance with Federal, State and funder regulations.
  • Timely and accurate coding for services into electronic medical records system for documentation and billing purposes.
  • Independent within the office setting and out in the community.
  • Coordinate several different events, including but not limited to negotiating with vendors, logistics.
  • Development of promotional materials for events such as monthly dances, bowling, and Saturday trips.
  • Develop goals and objectives, train the staff, and participate in the Individuals Support Planning process.
  • Conduct oneself professionally, maintaining respect, following regulations and agency policies, and adhering to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties.
  • Provides transportation for individuals to community events, including performing safe lifts and transfers of individuals who use wheelchairs.
  • Supports individuals to increase independence while safely navigating the community.
  • Actively advocates for individuals served and demonstrates agency mission and values in all interpersonal and professional relations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Program Director

Qualifications:

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • At least two years of experience in the field working with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities including autism spectrum disorder and Acquired Brain Injury preferred and their families.
  • An acceptable driving record, CORI, Fingerprint, and DPPC registry checks are required at all times during employment with The Arc of Opportunity
  • Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, problem solve, exercise sound judgement, prioritize multiple tasks, and crisis manage.
  • Knowledge about community resources to better assist individuals served in achieving their goals while seeking to empower and enhance their quality of life.
  • Cross functional communication skills, written and oral, which convey clear and concise information in a professional and respectful manner to individuals supported, family members/guardians, peers, government agencies, community partners and employees.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, software applications, financial management skills, and electronic medical records.
  • Ability to exert light to moderate physical activity which may involve lifting up to25 pounds and pushing and pulling objects of a similar weight.
