Work directly with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to provide person centered support; promoting confidentiality, privacy, human dignity, uniqueness, and physical and emotional well-being while supporting the individual to lead a self-directed life. Support people to develop and maintain relationships, advocate for justice, fairness and equity and full community participation. A DSP will show respect, integrity and responsibility for the individuals they support, other staff members and the community they work in.

• Delivers an array of employment services, including but not limited to: initiating or improving participant job search skills, using an analytical job match to facilitate job placement, and delivering effective on-site and/or off-site intensive coaching following placement to ensure proper job match, retention and employer/employee satisfaction. Promotes individuals’ ongoing vocational success by developing goals to meet the person and the employers’ needs and to challenge the person to grow in a position of their choice.
• Provides job development services to ensure job assignments are customized to the interests and uniqueness of the people we support which could include, but are not limited to: job development, job matching, job coaching, employer education, transportation arrangements, benefit planning, task analysis, advocacy and job maintenance. Additionally trains people we support in the area of professional appearance, communication, interviewing, and behavior as they relate to successful employment. Also provides travel training to job site as necessary.
• Markets and promotes Agency employment program and the valuable aspects of participating to potential employers for the purpose of securing employment opportunities for individuals with various disabilities and functional levels. Builds rapport and ongoing dialogue with employers to assess the employer’s satisfaction with job performance, ensure the people we support achieve success, and to proactively identify issues. Assist individual with acquiring new or additional skills to meet the employer expectations which includes identification and analysis of work to be performed

Minimum Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree required; degree in Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or other related field preferred
• Experience providing employment or vocational assessment services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities required

Licensure/Certification:

• Valid NYS Driver's License & access to reliable transportation to transport self and others as needed
