Description
The Custodian I is a full-time non-exempt employee of The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands. The Custodian I reports to the Lead Custodian and works in partnership with other Trust employees. This position, under general supervision of the Director of Administrative Operations, Facilities Management, and Grounds. performs a variety of work cleaning and maintaining all areas of the Visitor Center, Historic House, Cottages, Trust Offices, and the Operations Buildings. This position must provide sanitary, comfortable, orderly, and satisfying surroundings for employees and the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other work areas so that health standards are met.
•Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooing equipment.
•Empties wastebaskets and transports other trash and waste to disposal areas.
•Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and/or polishes floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
•Wet/dry mops floors in all areas as scheduled.
•Dust and polishes furniture and equipment.
•Prepares rooms for meetings and arranges food and furniture for social or business functions.
•Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in rest rooms and kitchens.
•Washes and disinfects all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats and fixtures as directed and trained.
•Maintains facilities in a sanitary and infection-free condition through washing, cleaning and replacement of equipment and
furnishings.
•Handle various cleaning solvents, chemicals, etc.
•Complies with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, State Health Department, etc.
•Checks all vacant rooms in cottages periodically to keep fresh.
•Cleans and polishes hardware such as doors, woodwork, door handles, push plates and other equipment.
•Spot cleans interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment.
•Reports any needed repairs immediately to supervisor (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, broken windowpanes, missing nuts or screws, beds needing repair, etc.).
•Inspects areas for liquid spills.
•Wash dishes and clean kitchens, cooking utensils, and silverware.
•Available to work special events and retreats that require different shift coverages often happening on weekends.
•Performs custodial services following safety guidelines and instruction.
•Completes assigned safety trainings.
•Any and all other assigned tasks, as per operational needs.
Requirements
SKILLS NEEDED:
•Special expertise in the care and maintenance of fine furniture, fabrics, decorative & art objects.
•Excellent teamwork & task organizational skills.
•Strong sense of ethics and sound judgment.
•Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
•Ability to move objects.
•Excellent time management, organization and prioritization skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Custodian will have the following experience:
•High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years of related experience and/or training
•Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and
responsibilities as described including related work experience.
•Possession of a valid and clean California driver's license.
•Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in cleaning and maintenance of facilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The custodian must be dexterous, able to lift or move heavy furniture, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 60 pounds without assistance. The Custodian must be able to stand for long periods of time. Custodian must be able to spend the majority of the day walking, twisting, bending, pushing and pulling. While performing the duties of this job, the Housekeeper may be required to read, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel and crouch. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise environment in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk through facilities for periods of up to (8) hours per day with scheduled breaks. The employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds. While performing duties in this position, the employee will work outdoors and may be exposed to wet and/or hot conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, sharp objects, extreme heat and/or open flame. The noise environment in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The employee may operate a golf cart, shuttle or motor vehicle.
