Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a well-qualified Assistant Director working with the Community Outreach Services (COS) department. The COS department provides culturally relevant and accessibility to programming and resources for low-income and uninsured children and their families, making sure they successfully reach their ultimate potential and goals to help build resiliency, knowledge, and practical skills that contribute toward their overall wellness. We currently provide services in Central and Eastern Alameda County. This position will provide support to all programs within the department by supporting program supervisors and helping to further develop program structure and services. This individual will also assume the responsibilities of the Director of Community Outreach Services within the agency and with external stakeholders when the Director of Community Outreach Services is unavailable or on leave. This role will uphold and champion the agency’s mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Community Outreach, Program Design, Enhancement, and Evaluation:

    • Leads overall program design, strategic planning, implementation, and program growth for assigned programs.
    • Participates in all parts of approved work plan elements for assigned contracts, as needed.
    • Actively networks and collaborates with external stakeholders to enhance department and agency objectives.
    • Leads and collaborates on special projects related to the success of the programs.
    • Collaborates to develop, maintain, and verify quality standards for the programs.
    • Promotes a culture of empowerment and advocacy for community members within the service areas.
    • Helps resident leaders identify and articulate the community’s various and emerging issues and needs.
    • Provides effective advocacy with local partners, service providers, public officials and other stakeholders that strengthens the community’s services.
    • Implement stigma-reduction campaigns that are culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate through social media or other media campaigns (such as the radio, storytelling, PSA/videos, podcasts, etc.) to push for narrative change.

Staff Supervision:

    • Provide supervision to all assigned program staff and mentoring and/or guidance to direct-service staff members.
    • Ensure staff meet assigned program activities and provide coaching and accountability around staff performance success and deficits in a timely manner.
    • Facilitate and/or coordinate quality training (at on-boarding and continuously) for all necessary skills and competencies for program staff to achieve productivity and quality standards.
    • Attend regular staff meetings, supervision meetings, and training and lead training as needed.
    • Ensure direct reports follow all agency policies and procedures through providing on-going education and reminders on agency policies and procedures and providing coaching and accountability around violations in a timely manner, with an emphasis on Quality Improvement, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), 42 CFR part 2, and other compliance policies and procedures as set by La Familia and the funder.
    • Coordinate and maintain adequate team staffing, including collaborating with La Familia Human
    • Resources for recruitment, retention, performance appraisals, employee discipline, and termination.
    • Set employee schedules and approve employee timesheets, time-off requests, and expense reimbursements.

Administrative Duties:

    • Assist in creating and maintaining program manuals for all COS Programs.
    • Support Clinical Quality Reviews in collaboration with Quality Assurance staff.
    • Assist in preparing for and the execution of all county, state, internal audits.
    • Assist in any and all grant reporting that may be required by internal and external funders and/or partners.

Contract Management:

  • Serve as a liaison with all funders on all programmatic and operations issues.
  • Attend all funder-required meetings, events, and trainings.
  • Ensure delivery of program elements in compliance with contract language.
  • Submit all necessary documents and reports to funders by deadlines.
  • Work with the supervisor and La Familia Administration to ensure appropriate contract expenditures.

Other

  • Build and maintain relationships with other COS partners and other stakeholders within Alameda County.
  • Provides individual and group supervision to interns as appropriate.
  • Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs as appropriate.
  • Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities
  • Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
  • Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Sociology, or related field OR equivalent to 10 years’ experience within community outreach, advocacy, prevention work, and/or organizing.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience with continual increased responsibilities in previous positions.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a variety of systems such as schools, criminal justice, creating stakeholder advisory committees, facilitation of internal and public town halls, and networking with local partners and organizations.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred, bicultural preferred;
  • Must be committed to addressing issues of stigma and discrimination related to unaccompanied children and their social, environmental, immigration status, and caregiver issues;
  • Knowledge of and experience with working with clients who have experienced childhood and adolescent trauma, including but not limited to domestic and environmental trauma, bullying, sexual and emotional abuse and trauma related to immigration.
  • Knowledge of MediCal billing and/or Salesforce to be able to accurately collect, analyze, and establish data threshold for programmatic goals and KPIs;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills essential;
  • Experience managing field-based staff preferred;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and the capacity to be flexible, as needs and special events arise;
  • Knowledge of, and respect for, a variety of cultural communities in Alameda County;
  • Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates and models excellent “customer service” orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
  • Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed.
  • Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties.
  • Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license
    • Auto insurance:  Personal vehicle may be used for business related purposes; it is recommended you inform your auto insurance carrier.
