The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space— delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space. At Aerospace, we are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse workplace for all employees to share in our common passion and aspiration – to carry out a mission much bigger than ourselves. Job Summary Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) has gained broad acceptance across government and industry as a preferred approach to space systems engineering. To meet the increasing demand for MBSE-related support across our sponsors, the MBSE Department aims to provide innovative MBSE solutions that solve our customers' most complex space systems engineering problems through research, development, and analysis. The ideal systems engineer for this position will implement creative MBSE approaches for new and existing space, ground, and launch systems, advising internal Aerospace and external government customers on the effective use of MBSE methodologies, modeling languages, and modeling tools. Work Model This position will be a hybrid work model with mostly onsite work required. What You’ll Be Doing Develop and evaluate architecture and engineering models across various modeling languages such as SysML, UAFML, BPMN, and others to support customers that acquire, develop, integrate, and operate space systems at all levels of abstraction to include the enterprise, constellation, space vehicle, and space vehicle payload levels. Infuse MBSE practices into our internal R&D programs and advise our customers on implementing MBSE in their programs. Advise customers on the selection and MBSE methods, languages, and tools that meet their use cases. Train Aerospace ETG, program office, and government customers on MBSE adoption, integration, and execution practices. Develop and share your MBSE knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices across Aerospace internal and external MBSE communities of interest (INCOSE, AIAA, IEEE, etc.) through papers and presentations. Provide project mentoring and oversight to MBSE Department and other Aerospace junior staff as necessary. What You Need to Be Successful Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), Computer Science, or related technical field. Proficient with one or more MBSE modeling languages (SysML, UAFML, LML, etc.), methodologies (OOSEM, SysMOD, MagicGrid etc.), and tools (Cameo, Cameo Simulation Toolkit, Sparx, Rhapsody, GENESYS, etc.). 8 years' experience in space systems engineering, including modeling methods and analysis. Knowledge of core space system segments (space, ground, transport, launch, etc.) at the enterprise, SoS, system, and subsystem levels. Ability to clearly explain complex concepts to customers and fellow employees. A self-starter who can lead the technical work of a MBSE project team and spearhead new efforts. Experience in all aspects of space systems engineering, including architecture, engineering design, and engineering analysis. Familiarity with architecture frameworks (DoDAF, UAF, TOGAF) Must be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance. How you Can Stand Out M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace, Systems Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), Computer Science, or related technical discipline. Some experience with querying object-oriented models using object Constraint Language (OCL) Experience with digital engineering or data engineering (e.g., AWS, databases, APIs, Kafka) Teaching experience, especially in technical subjects.
