Within the CSG, the Human Exploration and Space Flight (HESF) Division supports our NASA customer in all aspects of human space flight and program office activities. This position will support NASA's Extravehicular Human Mobility Program (EHP) at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). This person will work as a risk manager within the EHP Systems Engineering and Integration (SEI) office.

This is a full-time position located at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. This role is hybrid but the majority of support is in person.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support program office SEI risk integration working closely with adjacent programs, civil servants, commercial industry to adjudicate risks and develop mitigation or closure strategies.
  • Attend various meetings and program level decision forums, both regularly scheduled and intermittent.
  • Refine technical review products and contribute to review content.
  • Serve as a highly proactive technical specialist and risk manager, understanding issues and formulating options/recommendations, while working closely with the EHP and Moon to Mars community across other offices, teams, working groups, and panels.
  • Identify and initiate next level analysis as needed.
  • Coordinate findings with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Participate in NASA, Artemis Program Office forums as well as International Space Station and Commercial Leo Development initiatives.
  • Develop regular and periodic status reports and presentations.
  • Lead integration forums.
  • Lead development of risk process and associated documentation.
  • Develop special reports/discussions of findings, issues, conclusions, recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Formulate recommendations to senior-level program management.
  • Perform other duties for the customer as required.

This position is available as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

Project Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM field
  • At least 6 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a system engineering and/or program management environment
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development of and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner.

Senior Project Engineer

Same requirements as a Project Engineer noted above, in addition to:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited program in engineering, science, or another related STEM field
  • 10 years of years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a system engineering and/or program management environment

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer

  • 12 years' experience within NASA programs
  • Experience in human spaceflight
  • Experience working with NASA SMA and Risk
  • Knowledge of NASA Program Lifecycle Requirements, SMA Requirements, Human Rating Requirements
