Position Description

IT Support System and Exhibit Tech Specialist

Admiral Nimitz Foundation

Founded in 1971 as a 501(c)3, the Admiral Nimitz Foundation (ANF) since 2005, in an agreement with the Texas Historical Commission, manages and provides financial support to the State-owned National Museum of the Pacific War in its mission:

To foster responsible citizenship and leadership by inspiring all ages with our collection and the enduring relevance of the stories from the Pacific War.

About the Museum

Originally opened in 1967 as the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Memorial Naval Museum, it was renamed the National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) in 1997, and the U.S. Congress officially designated it as such in 2006. The Museum is dedicated to honoring all who served in and supported the Asiatic-Pacific theater of World War II and ensuring that the history, stories, and impact of this significant period are available to the public far into the future. A Smithsonian Affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, it welcomes more than 120,000 visitors annually, including over 20,000 children and students. NMPW also reaches thousands more through its virtual learning programs. Spanning six acres in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, it features three galleries with more than 55,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space, 40 media installations, almost 1000 artifacts, 15 macro-artifacts, hundreds of photographs, and thousands of oral histories in its digital archives.

Position

This position reports to the Director of the Museum and works closely with the Curatorial and the Facilities and Maintenance Departments daily.

Perform highly complex computer systems support work. Work involves providing customer support for National Museum of the Pacific War information technology systems, assisting with the deployment and support of new equipment and systems, including leading edge interactive exhibit technologies, and providing technical support and assistance to Museum and Texas Historical Commission (THC) employees on computer hardware, software, and network operating systems issues. Work under limited supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

Support System Focus

· Coordinate and oversee contractors to support the development, installation, and maintenance of interpretive/interactive technologies in galleries.

· Coordinate and oversee the museum’s Managed Service Provider (MSP) to ensure the ongoing operations of the museum’s IT infrastructure.

· Administer the setting up of equipment for employee use and performing or ensuring installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.

· Respond to and log support requests received.

· Assemble, upgrade, and deploy computers, and other equipment.

· Coordinate and perform system moves, adds and changes for telecommunications and IT equipment.

· Establish and ensure that appropriate security controls over software are maintained.

· Provide user support in the use of available hardware, software and utilities.

· Maintain and repair personal computers (PCs), printers, network and other hardware.

· Install and configure software, service packs and upgrades.

· Assist with hosting, configuring, monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting workstations, network printers and network applications or services.

· Create and manage user and group accounts, distribution lists and other email related functions.

· Assist with the development and maintenance of automated routines to facilitate network and support administration.

· Maintain documentation and other records of system performance and operations related to support functions.

· Create and maintain documentation and other records related to computer, software, and network equipment inventory,

· Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance.

Follow all THC safety guidelines/procedures and ethics requirements.

Exhibit Tech Focus

· The specialist works as part of an interdepartmental team supporting Curatorial, Maintenance and Visitor Services Departments to install and maintain ongoing and special exhibitions.

· The specialist handles maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of projectors, media players, monitors, and servers, as well as installation of new interactive equipment.

· Work with a team of designers, project leads and subcontractors.

· Inspect and log interactives.

· Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical interactive systems.

· Program and troubleshoot.

· Fabricate and install high-end exhibit components.

· Coordinate and prioritize daily tasks with team lead, subcontractors and other fabricators.

· Create and maintain detailed documentation for all assigned projects including parts lists, schematics and vendor information.

· Inspect all work to confirm it complies with drawings, sketches, scope of work and other provided documentation and verbal instructions.

Qualifications

· Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (two years of relevant work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for one year of college).

· Minimum three years’ recent work experience in a system support environment to include working with Windows Operating Systems.

· Work experience setting up and installing software on computers and mobile devices.

· Work experience troubleshooting network connectivity problems from desktop, laptop, and mobile devices.

· Additional familiarity with network troubleshooting using networking protocols like DHCP, DNS, SSH, NTP, FTP, TLS.

Environment and Physical Conditions

Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a Full Time, salaried position in the range of $72,000 to $75,000 with health insurance, sick leave, paid vacation, and holidays. A 401-B retirement savings account is offered. The applicant’s lifestyle must be flexible enough to work evenings and weekends, when required.
