The Addiction Center of Broome County is Hiring a "OD2A" Certified Recovery Peer Advocate Position Near Binghamton, NY

TITLE: OD2A Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA)

The schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, working from 11:00am to 7:00pm.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • If the candidate does not possess a CRPA credential, will complete the training
  • Driver’s license with clearance from agency’s insurance carrier
  • HS diploma/GED
  • AA or BA

EXPERIENCE:

  • Being in recovery is not a requirement of the position or credential, per application
  • As part of the certified peer advocate credential, the individual must have either 500 hours of related experience and CASAC, CASAC-T, CASAC-G, Prevention Professionals and Prevention Specialists, or Recovery Coach Academy graduates (certificate holder or training of trainers’ certificate holder) or, 1,000 hours of related experience for all other applicants with all experience having been gained within the last 5 years.

SKILLS:

  • Engagement of patients, especially individuals who are pre-contemplative by being patient and persistent utilizing motivational interviewing
  • Able to work at interdisciplinary levels across systems
  • Knowledgeable of the system of care and gaps in the system of care
  • Able to navigate individual with substance use/co-occurring disorders
  • Screening, assessment, basic group skills
  • Advocacy

DUTIES:

  • Working/driving and transporting individuals in areas of Broome County to assist underserved individuals in rural areas
  • Utilizes harm reduction and a recovery-oriented approach; conduct overdose reversal training, hand out testing strips, facilitate testing initiatives
  • Community education and stigma reduction
  • Helping peers develop recovery plans
  • Learning and practicing new skills
  • Helping peers self-monitor their progress
  • Modeling effective coping skills
  • Attending court and other system meetings as a support
  • Facilitating peer support groups
  • Supporting other peers in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services
  • Community outreach, particularly health care providers to assist with linkage to treatment and other services
  • Community psycho-education
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
