SHIFT: Monday – Thursday 7:45am – 4:00pm; Friday 7:45am – 2:45pm

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Cooperates with teachers in planning and implementing the instructional program for the students assigned to him/her
  • Works with other team members in identifying and solving problems related to students in school, dormitory, and recreational environments
  • Plans and implements music classes with students of varying levels of capabilities and ages (grades K – 12)
  • Participates as an active member of each individual student’s instructional team
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational and Physical Therapists, Orientation and Mobility Specialists and Speech/Language Therapists in addition to teachers to enhance the movement, physical capabilities and language development of students with multiple impairments
  • Utilizes teaching techniques and classroom strategies to accommodate the various learning styles and modes of his/her student
  • Plans lessons that engage students’ active participation and that they enjoy
  • Recommends and implements music goals as a part of each identified student’s individualized education plans; documents and reports progress on students’ goals
  • Implements students’ individualized behavior intervention plans when in contact with those students
  • Effectively utilizes aides and all others assisting with classes
  • Utilizes equipment and facilities in the most effective manner to support the instructional program
  • Promotes positive relations through effective communication and involvement with family, appropriate agencies, and community members to meet individual student needs
  • Utilizes professional classroom management techniques to assist students in learning
  • Continues professional growth and development
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy and procedures
  • Complies with all agency policies, procedures and handbooks
  • Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university [Applicant selected for hire will be required to submit a copy of all college or university transcripts]
  • Must have or be eligible to receive Texas teacher certification in music
  • Must have or be willing to obtain the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments supplemental certification within a specified period of time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with children with visual and multiple impairments.
  • Special Education EC-12 certification.
  • Skill in using sign language.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
