Texas Children's Hospital is Hiring a Physician Assistant - Urgent Care Near Houston, TX

Job Summary

We are searching for a Physician Assistant in Urgent Care -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will render care under the supervision of the site physician(s) and collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team. Practicing under established protocols, the Physician's Assistant (PA) assumes independent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care as needed. Works independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physicians as needed. Documents information in patient’s chart regarding assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and education. Refers to the appropriate specialist as needed. Tasks are measured by observation and chart review by physicians.
  • Educate patient/family. Provides verbal and/or written information regarding treatment regimens in language that is understandable and appropriate for the patient and/or caregiver. Serves as a credible, knowledgeable educational resource for the patient, family, community, and other health care professionals. *Observation and chart review by physician measure tasks.
  • Facilitates proper billing. Records diagnosis/CPT accurately and promptly to ensure prompt posting of charges per site protocol. *Observation and Superbill review of evaluator measure tasks. Charge and collection rates are also reviewed.
  • Participates in daily operations of the site. Participates in site meetings and provides input to address patient care issues or operational concerns. Participates in other applicable meetings and activities as required. *Tasks are measured by observation of physician and site manager.
  • Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families. Identifies self. Explains the visit process. Provides information regarding the length of the visit. Tasks are measured by observation of the evaluator.

Qualifications

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
  • Required Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • PA - Cert-Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board And
    • NCPA - National Cert Physician Asst National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants And
    • BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association (beginning 02/01/18 - see Additional Licenses Information below.)
    • PALS - Cert-PALS by the American Heart Association (beginning 02/01/18 - see Additional Licenses Information below.) If entering this role before 02/01/18, you must have one of the following: (1) a Verified BLS or PALS Card with an expiration date after 02/01/18; or (2) Attestation. If entering this role after 02/01/18, a verified BLS or PALS card is required
  • Experience working in pediatrics strongly preferred
