Position Summary
The Financial Accountant is responsible for performing financial and accounting work. The assignments will consist of assisting in the reconciliations between the general ledger and supporting subsidiary ledgers, assist with reviewing accounting transaction in the various accounting systems, provide support to the AR Specialist, TRS staff and operations. This assignment requires to work proactively with the Financial Accountant team, Finance staff, and agency employees.
Key Responsibilities
Reconciliation
Assist with monthly and annual reconciliations between the general ledger and sub ledgers which may include annuitant payroll systems, member records, cash receipts, service credit purchase (special service buyback).
Aid with monthly and annual reconciliations between the general ledger and sub ledgers to tax related information.
Prepares monthly reconciliations between the general ledger and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS) for the pension and other employee benefit trust funds, enterprise, and other funds.
Assist with the data entry of manual vouchers into the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
Conducts the research to resolve reconciliation discrepancies.
Assist with testing of the TRUST implementation projects.
Prepares reports, schedules, journal entries and related vouchers for cash, expenditure reimbursements, and annuity payroll.
Helps with the research and reconciliation of annuity payroll adjustments.
Financial Statements and Reporting
Provides support and assistance with the agency Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preparation as needed.
Perform the postings of journal entries when needed.
Helps with the monitoring, research, for the various cash and other accounts.
Performs related work as assigned.
Assist with record retention filing and documentation.
Assist with tasks related to the move of the Finance team to a new headquarters.
Knowledge of
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Skills in:
Attention to detail and accuracy in work procedures.
Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Using a computer in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, and other business software.
