The position provides services to generate in participants the skills and motivation necessary to complete secondary education and to enter and complete a program of postsecondary education. The Academic Success Coach II, under supervision, identifies, recruits and serves a caseload of participants; provides academic, college, career, financial aid advising and other technical assistance to participants to promote high school graduation, college enrollment and degree attainment. Assists in the recruitment of Saturday Academies and the Summer Component events. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Creates purposeful interactions between students and academic institutions to design individualized, student-centered educational plans that lay the foundation for student success. Accesses the academic and supportive needs of the project participants. Provides academic support for students and assists in providing academic enrichment sessions. Assists participants in accessing online learning materials. Maintains student records, track grades, and /or other documentation as required. Provides goal-oriented advising prior to the first year or through-out college to foster informed choices in students’ educational planning. Suggests and directs access of university resources relevant to career investigation. Assists students in understanding academic studies, curriculum requirements, and the relationship between majors and careers. Develops tutoring schedules based on individual student needs and previous academic preparation; Will assist with the supervision of part-time tutors. Assists students in establishing goals for high levels of engagement towards academic progress and success. Assumes primary responsibility for early intervention, implementation, and follow-up for students assigned to the University. Coordinates recruitment events at designated schools. Reviews program applications, interviews, and ensures that documentation is complete. Assists students in addressing problems and connects them with appropriate support services on campus. Conveys implications of various policies and procedures related to academic probation and suspension, dropping courses, and satisfactory academic progress. Provides general information about financial aid and scholarship requirements and processes, as well as other options for financing education. Assists in coordinating the Saturday Academies held throughout the academic year and the Summer Component program during the summer months. Coordinates and participates in field trips to enhance social and academic skills; college visits, cultural and community activities and career exploration. The above represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Requirements Education - Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience - Two years of related experience. Knowledge of - Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Ability to - Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Requirements Education – Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related field from an accredited college/university. Experience – Two years of related experience in a TRIO federal program or similar program; experience providing case management services and advising students with the college admissions and financial aid application process. Texas A&M University-Kingsville grew out of the teacher college or "normal school" movement that swept Texas and the nation in the early 1900s.
