Job Description
Texas A&M University-Texarkana is launching the Better East Texas (BET) initiative, an educational campaign to address the needs of this historically underserved region. Funding from the 86th Texas Legislature enables us to hire an Executive Director responsible for the development and implementation of the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment, an initiative that will include the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program; a program that will provide tax support to low-income community members and a student-involved investment fund, among other initiatives.
The Lecturer/Executive Director will oversee the relevant day-to-day activities of the Center within the College of Business Engineering, and Technology (CBET), as well as support and coordinate partnerships among students, staff, and faculty. In addition, the successful candidate will help build relationships with business and government leaders in the Tri-state region and play an important coordinating role in marketing BET’s objectives to local government leaders, business partners and other community-based organizations. The Executive Director will also perform related duties as assigned by the Dean of the College. The Executive Director will teach one course in the Spring semester and one course in the Fall semester.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build and promote relationships with faculty, staff and students to ensure that the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment objectives are met.
  • Research and identify appropriate mutually beneficial partnerships with community partners.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops to meet the needs within the College as well as the community for the purpose of identifying issues, making recommendations, and initiating programming.
  • Provide relevant training and support for faculty, staff, students, and the community.
  • Ensure effective planning, implementation, and evaluation of program activities.
  • Oversee the Financial Literacy and Investment Center operational activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Effective resource management experience including human and capital resources, budgeting, and monitoring.
  • Ability to understand, train financial, and related business policies and practices.
  • Ability to conduct outreach, raising awareness and understanding of the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment center objectives to the public and other important stakeholders.
  • MBA, MS in Finance, or closely related degree from an accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Finance or closely related field
  • Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or CFP
  • Experience working with individuals on financial issues, i.e., banking and investing.
  • Significant coursework in a variety of business-related disciplines
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g., SACSCOC, AACSB) and assessment, including data collection, organization, and analysis.
  • Expertise in networking, business research and development, incubating, marketing and community outreach.
  • Ability to work with individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg terminals and business databases for consulting and research
Other Requirements
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
